Ghiga: I guess we have to conclude from the ratings that people didn't like this photo, though unfortunately no one bothered to say why. My own intial reaction to the photo is that it's not very interesting, but when I force myself to consider it more carefully (something many people who rate photos on PN probably don't do), I find quite a bit of interest. Without the shadows, we would have a natural scene of leaves on the ground, but the shadows are obviously too straight to be from a natural object. The rigid composition, with one diagonal running directly from one corner to another, and two key elements located in the exact center between left and right, serves to highlight the contrast between the natural scene and the very unnatural treatment. This doesn't make a photo that is aesthetically pleasing (to my eye), but I think there's potential to develop this into a series of photos with natural/unnatural contrasts.

Thank You very much, David, for your time on my photo. In this shot I liked the geometrical composition created by the shadows and the horizontal cropping. The cross that includes the tree, for example... The origin of the shadows was a pergola's structure. And... best wiewed larger!

In the last weeks I collected a serie of 3 and 4 ratings and only two comments. But I don't consider the ratings so important. The Idea for the "date" was only to know if one or another of my photos was visited recently.

Ciao!

I have to say I agree with David about this photo. It didn't "grab" my attention at first, but after lingering for a moment I get a similar feeling. Have you tried cropping this image so that the shadows lead out, right up to the corners (except for the top right)? This might increase the graphic impact of the shadow pattern. Then again, maybe it's fine as is.

Thank You, James for your comment, but I have some problem with the interpretation of your suggest (my english is a little limited): Could You put an example from my image? Thank You very much for your help.

Here's a quick crop to show you what I was talking about. I also made it a little darker to reduce the highlights on the leaves and increase the shadows. I don't know if I necessarily like this better, but it is kind of like what I was talking about earlier. Sorry for the confusion.

Thank You, again, James. But I prefer my version: I centered voluntarly the tree in the frame, and it is centered in the shadow-cross too.

Fair enough! You are the artist afterall. I admit that after I tried cropping it I didn't like it not being centered either. ;-)

"X" marks the spot! This is where the treasure is buried, right?

I like this photo.

(Oh yes, shadows... this means the "X" moves about. What time of day does is hover above the treasure chest? That will be the time for discovery!)

Still laughing and realizing that there is almost always more to a photo than meets the eye! Even when the story is fiction it can still be much to enjoy. Happy day in Italy!

Sincerely, ~Sky
