This lake is located in the centre of Italy between Umbria and Marche, is called Lago di Pilato because the legend tell that the cows bringing to Rome the remains of Ponzio Pilato went mad and threw themselves with Pilato's remains into this secluded (1.950 m and 4 hours walk) lake.

This lake is also the only lake in the world where live the "Chirocefalo del Marchesoni" a small crustacean (try to google it).
