My Daughter's Piano

robertbrown

After seeing Carl Root's most recent Steinway shot, I decided to take a few snaps of my daughter's piano, which has just gotten a complete overhaul/tuning at no small expense to me.

I can't say why but I'm wanting to see the composition more to the right of middle C. Just seems like the C.A. Davenport belongs in the upper left. The keys are a little hot but I think I like the effect.

Don't see many of these out here on the east coast. Hope you're happy with it.

The toning got my attention. Looks like you did something to it. Subtle and effective.

Nicely done, Robert. The keys are a tad light on my monitor, but it gives kind of a soft effect. I saw Carl's photos, and if I ever see the right piano, I'm going to give it a try. We used to have an upright grand that weighed a couple of tons that would have been perfect for photo practice. I was never any good at piano practice.

Best Regards,

Barry

Ditto on the key comment- looks too light here as well. I think with a shot that is plain compositionally, you really need some snap to the lighting or textures to bring some life to it. Here, the name is in focus, but a fair bit of the shot is out of the zone of focus. The lighting is okay, but I think more directional lighting might work better. You are picking up some nice texture in the varnish below the name, and I think that's the kind of detail needed to make the shot.
