carsten_ranke 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Priceless his pose and expression, wary and perky... nice guy ! Lighting was perfect, he stands out nicely against the dark background. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted April 9, 2006 Colin, different and charming image. I like the sparkle in his eyes, his funny form, like a statue on a pedestal.... light and BG are very good, I like the bit of green that gives a context of nature. found in the zoo? Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted April 9, 2006 Thanks everyone! Meerkats live in groups (southern Africa I think). While the rest of the group are looking for food or babysitting there is always one on guard perched up high on a rock or tree. They still do the same thing in a zoo and are fascinating to watch as they take turns to watch out for danger. This was taken in Twycross Zoo near Tamworth, UK which specialises in endangered primates.. Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted April 9, 2006 Nicely captured Colin. S/he does look like he is ready to spring into action rather quickly. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 9, 2006 I had never seen a Meercat until our recent trip to the Houston Zoo about a month ago. They are quite funny little creatures. A few of them had serious orthodontic issues!! Link to comment
kim_tural 0 Posted April 9, 2006 He is such a cutie! I love his little paws resting on his belly. You caught him in the right light as he is framed perfectly by the dark background. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted April 9, 2006 Thanks everyone! Amar, I did not ask S/he any personal questions so I guess the gender will remain a mystery. Kim & Kim, they are very cute, arent they - couldn't resist trying to get at least one reasonable shot of them but the background was a problem with too much concrete and wire. everywhere. paula grenside 0 Posted April 10, 2006 What a pose, Colin, It looks as if the hands are in the pockets. Nothing escapes to those eyes. I am sure. Well well captured. Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted April 10, 2006 Nice portrait, but I find there is too much light on it.Regards, Henri Link to comment

cherlyn 1 Posted April 11, 2006 An alert guard with the sparkled eyes. I think this was taken on a very sunny day, thereof the light reflected off on his fur. Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted April 11, 2006 Hello Colin, I like the way you have isolated the Meerkat with a dark background. Although one is on guard, I don't think they stay in one place for more than a few seconds. Quite infuriating. As Henri says, the lighting is harsh, but we can only work with what we get. Had you thought about placing it more to the left so that it leans into the frame? Or would that look silly? Best wishes. P Link to comment

harnstrom1 0 Posted May 14, 2006 Charming. You say "only" from Zoo , I guess that Zoo is a nice place to capture animals. Pose, composition and technique leaves nothing to consider. Amusing shot, well done. Kind regards. Link to comment
warimages 0 Posted September 2, 2007 Colin, this is a good capture. The focus on composition is great. I just find the light too harsh. All the best.PS Thank you for the help regarding the poloriser. Link to comment
