paulsedwick 0 Posted April 5, 2006 Karl, this is a nice adventure panoramic landscape. The background haze is well controlled in the composition. I would like to see a little more saturation in the rocks even though the snow adds a bit of chill. I think the saturation would cut through some of the haze, add contrast to the snow, and give the photo more of a 3D feel. It does put me on the trail with days of travel ahead. I like it! Guest Guest Posted April 6, 2006 A fascinating panorama. I particularly like the winding bright line of the trail itself, the sunlight reflecting on the packed earth and lighting it up. I wonder if the enhancement Paul suggests could be achieved simply with a little local contrast enhancement (such as unsharp mask at 15-60-0). Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted April 8, 2006 Dear Paul and Chris, thanks for your comments. I have done what you advised me and I replaced the photo in this posting. It makes quite a difference in the subtle details of the rocks and in the contrast of the photo. Please tell me do you see a difference to what you remember from the first submission? Chris, until now I used sharpening for web photos always very differently, about 100, 0.3, 2. What you advised me has something magic. I do not know what happens, but the result convinces me. Guest Guest Posted April 8, 2006 Hi Karl, Yes, in an image like this one, the effect of local contrast enhancement is almost magical. The hillside comes alive, doesn't it? You can read a detailed article about it here. It's a supplement to your normal sharpening, not a replacement. After LCE you can still run USM at the settings you usually use (resize the photo for the web first, though). ~ Chris Link to comment
