dem_photos 0 Posted April 5, 2006 Joe: This is sure to set off alarms in the offices of the rule-of-thirds police. I'm convinced there are people here on PN who will give this a low rating simply because your subject is centered without taking a moment to explain why. Personally, I think this is an excellent example of a photo that could be improved quite a bit with just a more interesting crop, or better, by framing it differently in the first place. If you were to move in much closer to the subject (the setting here doesn't warrant as much space as it gets, in my opinion), as in the attached crop, you'd get a more satisfying composition, I think: The focal areas (two faces and the place the hands join) are now pleasingly off-center. I'm not a die-hard rule-of-thirds person myself, but I do think this is a case where it helps. I think it also would have been worth trying to get down a little lower for this shot so that the land/water line doesn't cut through neck and head--but of course that depends on what other elements a lower angle might bring into the frame at the top. buns 0 Posted April 8, 2006 This is a very sweet shot. To bad the little girls hard is in her face. Takes away from her expression. But it is a very warm feeling. Link to comment
