Took two images - one of a shrimp boat and one of rust on the side

of a freighter. Selected overlay in PS. Did a little cloning. Per

Jim McNitt's suggestion on other photo. Comments?

Awesome work Kim. Ou must have spent a lot of time on this one. It paid off well. Two things in my opinion would improve this would be to add a reflection of the boat in the water and tone down the jade green. When I think of destruction, I would think of more a Earthy drab toned green. Just in my opinion.

Thanks, Chris & Will. Will, I did try playing with the color because I wasn't happy with it, but I just couldn't get anything I liked better. When I changed to a different green, it seemed to change the whole "mood" of the shot and it didn't pop off the screen like this one does. I'll play some more, I'm sure. I actually don't want to make this TOO realistic; I want to keep it as more of an abstract. Anyway, it's fun to play sometimes and I appreciate your suggestions.

This is a wonderful variation of the other shot. I would not be able to choose the one I like best, they are different, they are both with character.

Admirable.

Hi Kim:

I think the tighter crop adds drama. The birds, which were marginally significant in the first version, really add a sense of versamilitude and IMO the relocation of the seam to the waterline really pulls it all together. Now I can even read the trawler's name -- "Green Light" -- which seems especially appropriate. Nice work and great fun to see it progress! --jim

I just had the chance to look at both of these images and although both are very interesting, this one is my favorite. I love that the seam is at the waterline...it adds to the original image rather than distracting from it as in the other shot. Also, I think the vertical crop here works better than the original horizontal composition. The rust really adds interest and the birds peeking through are a nice touch. Feels like the trawler is working its way through a thick fog (albeit a weird one!) You have a fabulous imagination and a wonderful skill (and patience) to bring it to life for the rest of us!

BTW, how's spring coming along in Texas? We're definitely starting to green up a bit and some of the trees have started to flower! Yeah!!! :)

NICE. You're really getting some good mileage outta this rust. This is the best I think. Very creative. The flipped-horizontal-rotated-90-CCW works very well.

Thanks, you all. I need to print out both versions and see which one works in a large print. Sometimes the ones that look best on PN are not the best ones in print and vice versa.

Leslie, we haven't had any significant rain in over 3 months, so it's not that green yet. The trees are greening up a little, but the grass is still brown. However, allergies are in full swing, which is why I spend more time inside playing than outside shooting right now.

I'm getting some photos matted for a gallery opening in June and they have signed me up. I may have to do one or two of these boat shots, just to see if they sell. The gallery wants mostly water birds, because it's in Port Aransas, on the water.

I like this one the best, too. The dark area at the bottom really adds to the mood. Wonderful!

Hi Kim, thansk.

It's trough, working with layers there's so much to discover and gives a lot of vcreative possibilities...I wish you success with it.

How is Jim, I never see him again on PN?

Ben, Jim was absent for awhile, but seems like he's back now! I've always enjoyed his work (and yours, too). You both have been an inspiration to me. Sue, thanks for commenting.
