bogdan_dumitru 0 Posted April 4, 2006 Hi Kim, Very good capture. Beautiful background color, it doesn't detract at all. Beautiful placement of the tree. I like the lines denoted by the branches, and how they expand. The eye naturally follows them. Crisp, constrasty. Your entire portfolio is something to learn from. I'm just a beginner, so I stare at it and try to "steal" inspiration. If you find the time, maybe you can look at my newest photos. As a beginner, I'm not sure how well I do. Good ratings give warm feelings. Bad ratings mean there's a long way to go ahead. Thoughtful critiques help me to go on that way. If you have a moment, please let me know how you like them -- especially the last one, the nature shot, I like it but it's really not my genre and I'm really not sure if it's just me who likes it :-) -- by rating and maybe leaving a message if you have the time. See you here on PN, --Bogdan Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted April 4, 2006 Neat Kim. This reminds me of an ocean landscape flipped to the right. Well done! The rust makes a wonderful canvas for the tree to be placed on :) I like this very much. Such vivid green! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 5, 2006 This one almost looks like material to me. I'm going to experiment some more with my rust shot and other photos as time permits. It makes an interesting background, I think. Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted April 6, 2006 Kim, like I said. People will buy these. Here's a thought. I think there is too much frame competing for your attention. I find the black overpowering the wonder that is your work. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 6, 2006 I like to have them like they would look framed on a wall, though. I have been doing slightly larger outside frames, so maybe I need to go back to my smaller framing. Thanks, Howard. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted April 8, 2006 Kim- here's my 2 cents about frames. I think like you. When I post an image, I want to use the frame I would use if I was going to hang it on my wall. As time has gone by, I realized that I love double mats. When I frame an image to hang, I almost always double mat. I think the framing on this one is very appropriate. I do not find that the black mat is overpowering your art, but to the contrary, more of an extension of the art that compliments it. I might offer an alternative, where instead of the gold "stroke" line is inside the black, move it slightly outside, giving the allusion of a "double" matt. My favorite :) I think it adds just a little more of a classical, finished look. But of course, we each have our own style. This is very easy to do in PS. Just a few simple steps. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted April 8, 2006 I, personally, don't think that a white mat like this or even a smaller black mat is as pleasing as the one you chose. But, just for comparison, here's it matted in white. I posted this because I think it supports my preferrence, the black frame is the right choice. The black mat makes the lighting almost glow on the branches. I like that! The white makes it look flat to me. Sorry Howard, I just don't agree on this one:) Kim made the right choice of color & size in my opinion :) Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted April 8, 2006 Thanks for the demo, Jayme. I definitely do NOT like the white at all; the image becomes quite lost instead of being enhanced, I think. Framing can be such a personal choice. I tend to lean towards simple mats and frames. I do like your inset inner line, as well. Link to comment
