I was very impressed with this image. It's not especially pretty, but the right on capture of speed and light was awesome. Must have been a great telephoto lens as well. Would love to know a little bit about how it happened.

Thanks for the comments Susan. No, it's not a pretty image. I put it up for a bit of fun. I took the photo of the whole bird on the beach as it was scratching itself. I used my Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L IS USM lens at 260mm handheld. I had accidentally left the ISO at 800 so at f5.6 I had a speed of 1/8000 which would stop anything. It is a very good lens for bird photographs. I was going to put the whole bird shot up but thought the close crop had more impact. The image was sharp enough to do this.Regards, Neil

Neil, this a most amazing bird shot.I've never seeing them do this, yet. The other bird photos in your portfolio are very beautiful too. Cheers, Sam.

It's always satisfying to capture a "moment" and if that "moment" is also captured well-clear, sharp, balanced-you really have something special. Great work here and of course on the rest of your wonderful portfolio. The horse racing shots are a real treat!
