Just wondering... how about a square format with the person centered in it, and more contrast. The pose is so outstanding that it deserves highest emphasis imo. Regards.

Probably stronger, I would agree with you.

I got overly attached to the vase as part of the composition (trying to use people as objects in a "still life" - but probably not integrated from a composition enough).

I don't mind at all your idea of seeing the vase, but then I think it should get more light, so as to stand out as a secondary subject. Here it's getting a bit lost in the background. And since the pose is so strong, that's why I thought of a square including only the main subject. Regards.
