rjsc 0 Posted March 28, 2006 Excellent close-up Birte. Good colour and great composition. The detail is in fact very good and the drops makes it work very well. Congratulations Link to comment
paulrunnesto 0 Posted March 28, 2006 Excellent macro. I wonder how you have managed to get that close and to obtain the magnification with the Canon EF 100-300 f/4.5-5.6 USM. Paul Link to comment
anupam 0 Posted March 29, 2006 I am curious about the lens too. and though I like the sharpness, the black background mars it for me - makes it look unnatural like a studio product shot. Link to comment
birteragland 1 Posted March 29, 2006 I accidently tapped the wrong circle, its supposed to be the cannon 65mm macro lens,I had not even realised I had done it until you pointed it out.It would be impossible with the other lens.Anupam you will find when doing macro shots this close up using that lens you always end up with dark backgrounds most of the time. anupam 0 Posted March 29, 2006 Birte, I realize how difficult such macro work is and appreciate your image, but I don't agree that the black background is unavoidable. That only happens when flash is your main source of illumination. There are a few ways to get around it. When using a tripod it is advisable to drag the shutter as much as possible to hold texture in the backgound. If you are shooting handheld then there are two possibilities. One is to frame the shot such that the background is not too far away to be illuminated by flash - the other is to use a secondary flash solely for the background. Shaw has a very good discussion of the problem of dark backgrounds in his "Closeups in Nature" which you might know. Again, I appreciate the shot but am just pointing out how it could be better. Also, the lens has nothing to do with the darkness, it's the flash. Sometimes with very high magnifications the working distance reduces to a few millimeters and it does become a problem to light the subject but the 65mm macro on a 20D should give you a healthy working distance. -Anupam Link to comment
Coho 2 Posted March 30, 2006 Well, I like it!. Wonderful detail, colour, and composition. Placement of the eye in the center works for me. Link to comment
