kahkityoong 0 Posted March 31, 2006 Gee I hope one day to see the aqua-alta. Great reflection. The campanile looks squished; did you try to correct for distortion? I think it normally leans to the left? Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted March 31, 2006 Hi Kah Kit ... good eye! I don't think this tower leans too much as it is a replica that was constructed in 1905 after the previous tower collapsed (miraclously, the only casualty was a cat). I have always hated this tower; I find it squat and graceless compared, for instance, to Sienna or even to Verona's. But, I did use transform on this picture to correct some serious perspective distortion (I'm sure you know I was standing as far back as I could get to shoot this) and I had a hard time getting the tower correct. BTW, there is an Italian web page that predicts the acqua alta (usually in the fall) hour by hour, which is how I made sure to arrive here in time to get it. Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted March 31, 2006 Venice during a period of acqua alta (high water), one of the few times one can shoot this in the day time without 5 - 10 thousand tourists in the picture. Wading boots essential for this shot! Link to comment
lucas82 0 Posted March 31, 2006 Great color and lighting. Looks like you caught it at the right time. But the tower on the right appears a bit odd. Perhaps leaning and somewhat rotated? Almost looks like it was placed in the image post-exposure. Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted March 31, 2006 Thanks, Lucas. As I noted above, I had to use the transfrom command to correct some really serious perspective distortion. I will stick the original on here later so you can see what I mean. But, I had a hard time getting the tower right, for some reason. I will work on it some more and see what I can come up with. lucas82 0 Posted April 1, 2006 I see. I didn't get a chance to read through these earlier. I was just doing the random rate thing when I made my comment. Sorry for making you have to repeat yourself :0) Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted April 4, 2006 I always find it not easy to correct the distortion using perspective in PS, maybe my skills still need enhancing. I love the crystal clear reflection here. Though the tower might not seem to fit into this beautiful place, it nevertheless provide a leading line because of its height. Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted April 5, 2006 Do you mean the lens distortion perspective correction tool in PS? I find this new tool in CS2 the easiest to correct for wide angle distortion. I acutally just used it on an image I uploaded today from Spoleto. Often you can't correct it completely as you get distortion in other directions. Link to comment
billfoster 0 Posted April 5, 2006 Unfortunately, Kah Kit, I don't have PS but only Elements. I can't justify the expense of a new PS and I don't have anything to allow me to use the upgrade. So, in this picture, I used transform. As you noted, it can partially corrrect it but not completely. I do think I could get it all if I spent a bit more time on it, which I probably will if I ever print it. Link to comment
