Interesting Shot! The seaweed is maybe a tad out of focus at the bottom, but I really don't care abou tthat, the picture is great fun to look at! Where was it taken?

Really interesting motif, well composed. The seaweed against the rocks is a strong stylistic element, like it very much. Ok its Velvia, but I find the water too saturated blue, as compared to the almost pale sky hues.

I agree with Carsten that the sky is too light, I would be tempted to remove it all together, along with the patch of sea beyond the rocks. The seaweed is the main subject of your picture, and it does not need much else.

Thank you for comment, the picture was taken at the "Giant's Causeway" Norterthern Ireland (try to google it, yo'll discovere an incredible place to visit). If you find funny and interesting to look at the seaweed you should see it in reality: they move all togeter like snakes....!

P.S. I will check the original slide and see if when scanning it I saturated too much the water... I'll let you know.

Thank you again for your input, wery appreciated.

I checked the slide and now can confirm that like this scan the sky is very pale compared to the water. I suspect the reason is that the sky is a bit overexposed because the picture was shot against the light (even if the sun is not in the frame). I metered the light reflected by the seaweed so they came out well, the water came out a bit dark and the sky a bit overexposed. Thank you for the input.

Sky is not blown out, and it is possible to compensate the sky exposure (kind of digital grad ND, I use that quit eoften) with a gradient layer mask for the sky, on a background layer copy with multiply blending mode in PS, opacity as needed, about 20 to 50% I guess.

So often we get used to things we all would like to see but are not reality. Sometimes those things shown as we might wish they were can become a cliche'. Can there be a bigger cliche' than the same old polarized sky over and over and over, deep blue like it almost never is? I am looking at the sky in the horizon right now out my window, just above my monitor, and it is much like this sky, except in reality the real sky today a little lighter!

Great feel in the image. Makes me wish to visit there, I think that's a sign of success of a landscape image.

Diego, thanks for your comment on my Giants Causeway shot and for letting me know of your wonderful "Northern Ireland" folder here. I see you really love the square format, don't you? ;) my favorite within this folder is this shot here, the shapes of the tang(?) on the water and the reflections work perfectly.

best wishes from Northern Ireland,

patrick :)
