sehrita 0 Posted March 17, 2006 I love your photo. It feels so desolate with the lone building and the tree and yet it is so beautiful. The sky is also quite amazing. Great composition! Link to comment
albertopveiga1 0 Posted March 17, 2006 I like the overall appearence of your image. It's a really stunning composition with only two elements. Congrats! Link to comment
rob_kiser1 0 Posted March 18, 2006 this is a nice photo. I like it very much. The tree is interesting. Two suggestions: 1) Level the photo - land may slope, but roof of house shouldn't. 2) Rule of Thirds says there's too much sky and not enough grassland.I would suggest a crop more like this one:http://www.wispertel.net/~rkiser/haydon_sm.jpg. Also, I have rotated the image 1 degree to the left to straighten the house. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted March 18, 2006 Yes, the roof needs to be level (it's hard for me to tell from the relatively small images), but I'm less concerned about sticking to the "rule" of thirds. Having relatively more sky adds to the feeling of lonliness of a single, bare tree and simple house set in the vastness of the landscape, and I think that was one of Michael's primary reasons for capturing this image. Rob's crop produces a very nice image, but I think Michael's original is more dramatic and conveys more feeling. Link to comment
krpradu 125 Posted March 18, 2006 We can say a lot about how to do it,but it is shore that you did it very well, regards. Link to comment
mrhaydon 0 Posted March 18, 2006 Thanks Rob for your reminder about 'rule of thirds', but rules are rules and quite often you can't always apply rules so strictly to photography, otherwise we would have no more room for art and expression. My view was that the 'Rule' was to encourage newcomers to photography to place certain elements in a more pleasing fashion within the frame, rather than plonk it in the middle. So I would abandon the rule for myself and go for more of a 'balance of composition'. Michael. Link to comment
rob_kiser1 0 Posted March 19, 2006 I'll give you that rules were meant to be broken, but there's too much sky in the this photo IMHO. Plus, the sky isn't terribly interesting. Just my thoughts. Still a nice photo, once you level the house roof. :) Link to comment
daryl walter 0 Posted March 19, 2006 Hi Michael, nice idea but for me it's a bit too obviously a photoshop composite. I realise that whether one likes this sort of thing or not is a matter of personal taste but that aside the 'joins' are a little too obvious. The lighting in particular doesn't match that well for the various parts of the composite. Link to comment
