oswegophoto 1 Posted March 17, 2006 Ooh ... a relic of the Space Age ... and ready for another mission, perhaps. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 17, 2006 Did you see "The Last Starfighter", Don? What was the name of the trailer park?"Star Lite, Star Brite"? This is reminiscent of that - the space programs back in the 60's and the dreams of galactic conquest and adventure... Link to comment
oswegophoto 1 Posted March 17, 2006 Lee, did I see The Last Starfighter ? Absolutely. I hadn't thought of it, per se, but that's a welcome idea. I remember when Sputnik went up, and subsequent cultural effects, and those conceptions of the World of Tomorrow as seen from the breathless post-war perspective of hope and the Cold War wish to live through it all and get out there. When I saw this, I thought how dated the term "Space Age" sounds now. You noticed that, except for what I assume are a few bullet holes, it's in fine shape? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 18, 2006 Yes, it looks ready to go! It would be nice for it to be resurrected at some retro nightclub somewhere, wouldn't it? The Jetson's ... Link to comment

Jack McRitchie 150 Posted March 22, 2006 You know, for some reason it made me think of Telstar (I think that was the name of the song) by The Ventures. It was all so now, then; and now it's all just so then. I think maybe the sign could be just a little brighter to make the word Satellite a bit easier to read. Link to comment
oswegophoto 1 Posted March 22, 2006 Klaus, verstehen Sie "swinger" auf englisch? ;-) Glad you liked it, really.Jack, ooh ... the Ventures. Brighter? I actually punched this up a fair amount. It was raining lightly at the time. Next time I go there, I'll try some fill-flash. Or you could maybe turn up your brightness. ;-) Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 22, 2006 I foresee another e-mail from Klaus grilling me on the vagaries of Our Version of English (most recently it was all the nuances of "sucker" - you can imagine...). (Klaus! You know I'm kidding - but really, Don is a much better reference than I -only not so cute!lol!.) Link to comment
oswegophoto 1 Posted March 22, 2006 Klaus, she's right: I'm not as cute. I do sympathize with anyone trying to use English (we still blame William and his Normans for a lot of the oddness). Our slogan, after all is: "The English Language: We Make Stuff Up As We Go Along." Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted March 22, 2006 As an English teacher in Japan I think I'm going to use that as the slogan on my business card. Kind of catches the spirit of the language. Link to comment
oswegophoto 1 Posted July 18, 2006 Thanks for all your appreciation. As promised, I moved closer and used some fill-flash on my next visit (same lens, though on an N90s this time). Here is the result, with less deep shadows. Link to comment
