k5083 1 Posted June 22, 2006 I consider this maybe my best Staggerwing picture. It was shot vertical; it's not a crop. It is pretty much the picture I was looking for, although I feel that small, hard-to-control details like the pilot looking toward me, the position of the propeller, and the red strobe happening to flash as I shot all help the composition. What do you think? Link to comment
tedg 0 Posted June 23, 2006 Hello August....I really like the image with a couple of caveats: 1-Is the shadowing of the underbelly on purpose? Personally I like seeing detail. 2-I don't like the pilot's expression at all. It does not complement an otherwise great shot. Link to comment
k5083 1 Posted June 23, 2006 Hmm, both good points. 1 - It's a scanned Kodachrome, so I'm sure there's detail there that I could bring up. I'll think about it. 2 - But don't you think he looks like Ted Danson? Link to comment
gnashings 5 Posted January 26, 2011 It is one of the most photogenic aeroplanes ever, is it not? A real thing of beauty, and such nice, natural colours in this shot. When I was faced with photographing one, I found I couldn't find the shot I wanted - it just seems that no matter what I did it did not do it justice, but I think it has to do with the sense of motion evoked by this machine. Even when its standing still, it looks like its conquering the airways:)The example I had the chance to shoot was red, but I really like the other set of classic Staggerwing colours on this one!
