juan-de-santa-anna 0 Posted March 17, 2006 Fantastic, I have ten or fifteen that howl outside my window every night...my puppy sits by the window late into the night tilting her head...it's fun to watch almost as fun as this image...Nice job..Thanks for posting this...Juan Link to comment
david shelby 0 Posted March 17, 2006 I love the Lamar valley, your photo captures the call of the wild that enhances that area. Excellent composition, color and subject. A 7/7 easy. Link to comment
jesse_kolar 0 Posted March 17, 2006 I'm fascinated at how well you maintained the clarity for the main howling image. You must have used digital manipulations because I can see the ugly pixels in the background! (Especially magenta/blue above and left of the coyotes head.) I think for a perfect score I would have also wanted more room above the head, but perhaps this would leave the coyote too small. I always like wildlife pictures when there is much of the setting revealed in the direction the animal is looking/facing. Marvellous photo, but digitally manipulated pictures should be a bit cleaner, and cropping. 6/7 Link to comment
cappoldt 0 Posted March 17, 2006 This is really great, Dmitry - I'm smiling here, knowing what a great time this must have been...and such a great result...but how DARE you leave the Island without taking me - it's been a long-ass winter here. I wonder what this would look like as a vertical? Link to comment
dmozzherin 0 Posted March 18, 2006 Thank you everyone for your comments! Jesse, I am not sure I understand where are the bad pixels you noticed. Chris, glad to hear from you! Link to comment

c brake 0 Posted March 18, 2006 This is fantastic! Do you know what your shutter speed was? Normally, I'd say go with a vertical crop on this also, but in this case, I think your crop works better. Link to comment
jesse_kolar 0 Posted March 22, 2006 The pixels I was talking about are clearly seen in the upper left of the photo. The gradation from darker "blue" snow to the white areas of snow appear very blocky. I've noticed that several digital photographers have similar patterns on backgrounds to their photos. Perhaps from compressing the photo? After seeing the vertical crop, I almost like the original better. The little weed on the right emphasizes a feeling of lonliness to the image. Every time I look at this photo I like it a little better. Link to comment
