dexdee 0 Posted March 15, 2006 Good colors, nice one with the tree, and this fog is a good effect. DDD Link to comment
mona_chrome 0 Posted March 16, 2006 I think this is a very nice photo, but I do think "cyan" when I look at it. Although I like the delicate tone, I do think it would be better with a bit more magenta and yellow in it--curves: green and blue pulled down a bit. This color is just a bit too unreal for this scene, but it is very nice otherwise. Link to comment
mozgur 0 Posted March 16, 2006 Mona, I see cyan, too, it may be a bit strong, but as always, it has been selected from several slight variations of this image. I check the color matching by chaging color palettes also. I usually like certain palette conversions, in spite of their apparent "unnatural" color shifts. It should be clear that I am NOT going for a scientifically correct depiction of the scene, as it would have been rather boring to see nothing but bright patch of sky -ie there is significant change in the light intensities in this picture to make it more than what the sensor actually captured. Having said this, I concede that the original colors of the scene may have been more appealing to some viewers. Link to comment
mona_chrome 0 Posted March 16, 2006 Mehmet, I certainly am not one to push for exact, or even close for that matter, color match in a scene. The one thing I do love about the digital control is that we can now control how our color photographs look rather than depending on the materials provided us by the film and paper companies. I think the reason I reacted to this color is that cyan is a process color(4 color printing) and just has a very unreal, man-made quality about it. (many times in printing, printers will substitue a more purple blue for cyan to get better results with subjects like this). I think this photo is very nicely seen and just felt that the overall cyan cast fought a bit with the natural beauty. So, I just wanted to pass along why I reacted this way and do respect your choice. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 17, 2006 I like the feeling of unreality that the cyan toning adds here, let's face it this place is pretty outlandish to start with. The loneliness of the tree signs the deal for me though, I just cannot fathom how it could ever take a purchase on life in that spot. Link to comment
mozgur 0 Posted March 17, 2006 Ben, life - as far as trees are concerned- does not choose these spots, springs choose them. If you haven't seen it already, you should see the new canary spring at Mammoth Hot springs in yellowstone. This is a decent size hot stream flowing through a small grove. When I saw it last october, some trees were still alive, don't know how they look now though. If it flows at the this pace, surely, all trees will be bleached very soon. It is pretty unreal to see a hot, suffocating stream painting everything in white. Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted March 17, 2006 Mehmet, I find this excedingly beautiful and very well composed. I've never been to Yellowstone, so are you saying that these springs come to the surface every so often.....I certainly hope Yellowstone doesn't have the mighty eruption the scientist say it will for a long long time to come....Jim Link to comment
