pnital 36 Posted March 13, 2006 The main trade and activity are done all along the Niger banks. The vessels that are seen here is typical . Thanks, Pnina Link to comment

jim kerr 0 Posted March 13, 2006 Pnina, Would this be at Timbuktu? You know, this reminds me of what I saw in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In that in Atlantic City, you have these nice big new buildings(casinos) along the ocean, then behind them are block after block of houses of people that can't afford to fix up their homes......Great photography, each a document in it's own right, each a testiment before the world. I appreciate being able to see them....Jim Link to comment

afs760bf 0 Posted March 13, 2006 Wonderful photo, Pnina. The contrast between culture and progress makes such a powerful presentation. Great work to get the foreground boat in the frame. Best Regards, Barry Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted March 14, 2006 You seem to have caught the atmosphere of the place well, the timeless quality of the boat, the shanty town along the rver bank and the human activity. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted March 14, 2006 To all of you for your feedback, reading your comments let me understand that you can get the impression of life there, and I'm glad for that, as it was importent for me to show that country's life style. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted March 14, 2006 The colours & contrast here is very much better than the last simliar title picture that I remember. Gives a interesting glimpse of the life so remote to city dwellers like us. Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted March 14, 2006 Excellent record shot showing us a different life style. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
ransford 0 Posted March 14, 2006 One of the best of the series, both artistically and as a documentary. But, tell me, the fascinating painting on the side of the boat. I know you must have got some shots of this. Hope you'll share them Link to comment
dguindon 0 Posted March 14, 2006 Whoa Pnina, look at all the fun things to look at! I'll have to admit, first time i've witnessed riverbank life on the Niger river. Couldn't have picked a better location. I notice the Niger has a nice green colour to it also, almost like glacier water here in Canada. (i know, no glaciers in Africa, well not counting Kilimanjaro's shrinking ice pack) Very enjoyable one! Link to comment
home page1 0 Posted March 15, 2006 Thanks for presenting this image of a much different culture and lifestyle. Interesting shot! Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted March 15, 2006 Thanks to all of you. The Niger river length is more than 4000 km. it runs in several african countries and is the source of life for the people there. As far as I remember the photo was taken in the Niger banks of the capital Bamako but not completely sure, always a big hastle, many colors , boats , commerce, and people, and it repeats itself in other cities as well. Ransford, sorry ,but this is the only image I have, I did not take a shot of the painted part of the boat, and that is because one has so many things to see....It is an attack on all your senses... Thanks again , Pnina Link to comment
hiroya 0 Posted March 15, 2006 Now I see how people here are poor and also are in the river's debt. It supplies water, foods and a traffic route to them. Pnina, this is a very well-captured photo and I want to see many interesting details more. Please upload much LARGER one too. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted March 15, 2006 Hiroya, I have uploaded a bigger version upon your request... I hope you will like it and see better the details. Albinas, thanks for all your nice comments and visit. Link to comment
peta 0 Posted March 15, 2006 This really gives us a sense of their life in this area. The more modern buildings and a form of transport that is probably centuries old. Very good documentary shot Pnina. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 15, 2006 I find the painting on the bow of the boat intriguing. I wonder what its significance is. Do families live in these boats, as they often do in Southeast Asia? Link to comment
