Guest Guest Posted March 13, 2006 Bob, I can understand your attraction to this bloom. The lines in the petals are wonderful. Top that off with the orange stamens and it's quite a color combination with a great graphic pattern. The challenge of course is DOF. Shooting macro, there's no way to get all the parts in focus (unless you were to combine several frames). So, you have to make choices. Your choice, in this instance, was probably the best compromise. Still... I have hibiscus blooms nearly year round and can't find a solution to this very dilemma. I'm also thinking that dark upper left corner is demanding too much attention. I hope this and your more abstract version, which I prefer, are the start of a new series of this bloom. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 16, 2006 Laurie, I have the solution to your flower dilemma. Just say 'no' to flower shooting... as for this shot I like the inclusion of the background petals on the top rhs but not so with the top lhs. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted March 16, 2006 Dallas, Laurie, and Knicki, thanks for all your comments. This is a photo that should have turned out better than it did. Laurie, your critique of the photo was spot on. I'll have to see if I can give these croci another try before they all die off. DOF is a major stuggle in macro photography, especially when your sensor is really dirty! I'll give this another try at f45. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted March 16, 2006 Since you insist: http://www.bartleby.com/61/44/C0754400.html By the way, how do like my new self-portrait? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 16, 2006 OK...all I can say is some words just tickle me. That's now one of 'em. Regarding the self portrait, it's sort of small to judge properly. At first glance, I'd have to say I preferred the prior more distinguished photo. However, if viewed on a more appropriate scale, my opinion might change. The colors and the background are interesting and it presents a different side of you-just need to see more of you. Of note, this and the prior portrait have no eye contact with the camera/viewer-not really a judgement, just an observation. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted March 16, 2006 OK, next self-portrait will be eyes staring defiantly into the lens. . . . Do y'all have croci in Florida? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 16, 2006 Technically, gators are crocodillians but the plural for that would be crocs. In S. Florida we do have Crocodiles. While not true "salty's" they tend to hang out in salt water. Aint neer seen no croci grown wild round these parts though. Sure's a purty ol flower. Looking forward to your defiant self portrait.
