"The Taunt"

Thank you for taking the time to view my photo... As always, your

comments, thoughts, and constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.

What are your thoughts regarding the crop of this image??? Above is the image as it was originally shot for comparison. Does the crop work or do you prefer the capture in it's original form?

Hi Norman, the crop is definately more intense and personal. The wider shot is good too, I like the ropes and the overhead lighting. I think the crop has a slight edge. These boxing photos are quite nice. What does it say on his waistband, surely not what I think...

Thanks for the kind words. I am not a boxing fan but was given ringside access and a friends 1D MkII to try before buying my new camera so I couldn't turn it down. Although this shot was taken with my 10D, it's one of my favorites for the same reason that the ropes and lights created drama.

 

With regards to the boxing trunks, I think it says "R.I.P. Al Gavin"... No idea who that was, but I know it wasn't his opponents name. ;)

 

Thanks again for taking the time to comment. A lot of people on this site simply like to throw out meaningless ratings behind the veil of anonymity and never take the time to offer up their two cents. Good or bad, I prefer to hear what people think as well as their ratings... That's how we learn and grow.

That sounds like a perfect photo-op and you did a nice job with it. I think the exposures must be tricky with all the toplighting, and really good noise performance at ISO 800. The word on the waistband looks like it ends with ...SSY

Oh... LOL It actually was his name. Funny I didn't notice it like that.
