Could the owl have made a strike and a miss? Nice action shot with beautiful simplicity. It's wonderful how the reflected light from the snow lights up the underside of the bird. Keep up the great work!

I'm a biologist and I try to be a photographer, and this image is absolutely stunning. I can hardly imagine the conditions that have to come together to get a shot like this. Is it simply being in the right place at the right time, or do you actually lure the owl (as surveyors for spotted owls do)? A big part of my appreciation for this and similar photos is the difficulty in seeing and being at the moment.

Looking through your portfolio, I will state that for most of us (as mere mortals), photo's like this are pure luck. You seem to capture birds in great positions.
