HKFS2006 - Butterfly 2

teru

Didn't have a tripod with me so I had to settle for f/4.5 to avoid lens blur.

Shot with my new (first) macro lens. The DOF is a little shallow

because I didn't have a tripod and had to shoot at f/4.5 to get a

fast enough shutter speed, but I'm glad I took the shot. Too often

have I heard my fellow photographers say that they didn't shoot a

photo because they were limited by their gear...

I just came across this photo. It sounds like you didn't intend for such a shallow depth of field, but my personal belief is that this was a nice mistake. The leading edges of the butterfly seem sharp (hard to see at this size). The trailiing edges are blurred giving the illusion of motion. The eyes stand out nicely, and the lines create interest. Lots of color. It would have been nice to have those antenae in focus though. I could see this picture making some money, but I have no experience in that. Just a guess...

Nice one.

Hmm, motion...that's a great take on this photo; it never really occured to me to interpret it that way.
