andre_mcnichols 0 Posted March 8, 2006 Good one Drew, your portraits are getting better each time! I like the softness of this image but I'd like to see a bit more glint in her eyes. Your model is pretty and you show just enough of her to make us wanna see more. Hopefully you'll have a whole folder dedicated to her soon! Andre Link to comment
dpurfectlight 0 Posted March 9, 2006 Windows light capture, let me know what you think. Thanks. Link to comment
vincentleong 0 Posted March 9, 2006 Lovely portrait shot....same, thoughts here, the eyes! It sure gives the mysterious feel and great work! Link to comment
dpurfectlight 0 Posted March 9, 2006 Probably the fill flash is not strong enough for the catchlight in her eyes. The fill flash might overpower the main windows light is also my main concern. Thanks for the critiques Vincent and Andre. Link to comment
kim_tural 0 Posted March 21, 2006 Your subject is very pretty and I wonder if I would like to see her eyes more in focus here. I know the title is "The Veil" and the veil is in perfect focus but I think the woman needs more attention imho. Kim Link to comment
andre_mcnichols 0 Posted March 21, 2006 I'm sure this woman gets all the attention she needs Kim... And for this portrait, maybe some careful sharpening of the eyes would do the trick here. Andre Link to comment
kim_tural 0 Posted March 21, 2006 I'm sure you are right, Andre about the woman getting enough attention! Now back to the portrait, I see that her hair seems to be sharp, maybe the eyes were blurred on purpose? Link to comment
dpurfectlight 0 Posted March 22, 2006 I think it's the focusing sensor didn't lock in the eye. I think Andre is right for the selected eye sharpening. My Photoshop editing skill is still need some major sharpening. :). BTW, I'm not the main photographer just helping my friend, the main wedding photog to cover all the angles. Link to comment
andre_mcnichols 0 Posted March 23, 2006 Shooting such a tight portrait at 2.8 would be best with manual focus and a very large and bright viewfinder. The focus is on the veil here and the DOF is extremely shallow but we're talking about some fine detail that most people won't even notice and I'm sure she loved this shot. Andre Link to comment
tilly 0 Posted April 4, 2006 If you we're standing to closed to her may be F8 and focus at the corner of the right eye instead of the veil would help.Anyhow I like this one and I bet she must like it also.congratulation! Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted April 11, 2006 Very natural and nice shallow DOF. Did you try to use spot focusing on the eye? Link to comment
repose 0 Posted April 11, 2006 its good photoghraph........i muted about the sharpness.i think better to focus back side eye.or total focus the image & make little bit white ball to the corner of the eyes. any wrong plz kindly feed back. regards jaya Link to comment
dpurfectlight 0 Posted April 11, 2006 No I didn't use spot focus Alec. It would be nicer if the eye is also sharp. Jade and Jaya F8 will give sharpness overall but then everything else including distractions will also be sharp. I prefer to get close to eliminate distractions as much as I could. I also have plenty of excellent lighting, super sharp but confused images with lot of distractions. Thanks to the critiques here ;). F8 and be there is almost a universal guideline as the sunny f16. It's only a guideline however. As Andre suggestion, shallow DOF of 2.8 or below is best to carefully manually focus with a large viewfinder, but manual focus's somewhat challenging when the action is fast. Thanks Jade, Jaya, Alec, Andre and everyone for the critiques and comments. Link to comment

tanyatruong 0 Posted June 6, 2006 It sounds like you understand a lot about the technique of portraitures. When you get a chance, please enlighten me more. Most of the time, i am still..."Ok, i know exactly what i want to capture, but how...?!!!" This photograph provokes emotion and that's what makes it most beautiful to me. Very strong composition. Congrad, tanya. Link to comment
dpurfectlight 0 Posted June 9, 2006 Tanya, I'm not sure that I'm qualified to enlighten you. Basically, just start out with soft lighting, F8, focus on the closest eye of the two and zoom in to eliminate distraction. Subject should look into the picture. You can experiment more later with shallower DOF of f.5.6 , f4. f2.8.. f1.4 or shallower if you can afford the glass and see if you like the OOF effect. Best of all, just go out and do it. BTW, impressive portfolio you got.. congrats. Link to comment
tanyatruong 0 Posted June 10, 2006 for your tips. I actually will do some more shooting this weekend. Your tips will come in handy ;O). To be honest with you, i am still a nervous crate when it comes to handling my camera (they said: "you are your own worst enemy.") Best regards, Tanya Link to comment
