Hi Baer,

I've tried a lot of temple ornamentation shots. The ones I think I'm going to like always turn out to be bummers and the unlikely candidates often yield unexpected surprises. That said, I think you are very close on this one but the composition would be more appealing if each edge terminated at slightly different points.

On the bottom I would crop just above the little orange triangle so that the bottom edge fell just below the curved detail in the center left. On the right edge I would try cropping just to left of the the little vertical ornamentation in the background on the right edge. If you have more photo at the top I would extend the photo up to include all of the little winged ornamentation much like the one on the right that sits atop the field of green and orange. If you have more photo on the left edge, I would include all the snake-like tail hook that is slightly cropped. Another possibility would be to crop inward and delete the tailhook.

Then the question becomes would all this work really improve a photo that already has a lot of interesting detail!

Jim, thank you so much for your thoughts and the great suggestions for the above photo. I might submit a 'new and improved version' at a later date. :)

There would be so many different views of this temple that it is hard to say if you've found the best abstract view or not. However, I do like what you've shown us and I consider it to be a quite good. It has great colors, textures and patterns.
