This could have been in portraits too, perhaps. A statue of Charles

Darwin, as controversial in the 19th century as in the 21st.

What do you think?

Ah! the Natural History Museum strikes again! If you compare this with your 'Monkey' shot (bit of a monkey thing going on here?) this shows what I mean about open shade being better for shadows and forms as the relatively diffuse light gives nice detail and texture. The blurred background helps throw the statue into the foreground well.

Hello Colin, we had a family day in town and my daughter wanted to see the NHM. This was almost the last shot I took as we left. As you know, this statue is hard up against the wall in the coffee shop, so the background blur, comes from the PS blur filter.

I've been thinking about the more even lighting from shade and fully agree.

So I'll be doing more work on my technique.

Peter, You have captured this statue as if Charles was there posing for you. Artfully done.

From what my Dad tells me, Darwin is in my family tree and was a great, great, ... uncle. Anyway, my understanding is that before his death he became a Christian. Just wanted to add some fodder to the fire;-)

Kind regards, Paul

Hello Paul, thanks for looking. As I understand, Darwin had been a christian at the time he was on the Beagle. I think his interest was in how God had created, rather than if God created.

Sitting on the other side of the room is Huxley. A lot less famous but equaly involved in 19th C evolutionary theory.

Cheers. P
