kslonaker 0 Posted March 5, 2006 Used two programs - Corel Painter Essentials and Photoshop CS. Mucho work! Took about two hours to come up with this. You literally "paint" each stroke. I'll post the original photo so you can see where I started. A new challenge and SO much fun!!!! Link to comment

kslonaker 0 Posted March 5, 2006 I only just got this software on Friday, so I'm sure I will improve with practice. I'm going to try it on a bird shot next! :) Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted March 5, 2006 This is really amazing! I have an image of a black lab mix in my folder that I worked on in PS to white out all of the background and it took forever! :) I've never seen these brush strokes like you used on his fur. What a wonderful effect! For having just got the software, you seemed to have figured it out pretty quickly. The overall effect is great. He has such soulful eyes. Incredible expression. kslonaker 0 Posted March 5, 2006 Leslie, it's only $99! The full-blown version is about $300+, but this version is kind of what PS Elements is to PS CS. I wanted to see if I would even like it. It's fun, but almost as much work as really painting the picture (because you actually ARE making the strokes yourself)! Link to comment
kim_tural 0 Posted March 5, 2006 I love the results you got! It almost looks like a Bateman:-) The white background is really nice too and suits the portrait very well. I would like to try that someday too. I like that you kept the eyes as is, it keeps the image more 'alive'. Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted March 5, 2006 I know the software, Kim, and know it's a LOT OF WORK when you want excellent results, and you did it, excellent painting. Love the strokes effects on the fur a great lot. Link to comment

kslonaker 0 Posted March 6, 2006 It's about 90% Corel Painter Essentials and 10% PS. LOTS of work, but a lot of fun to play with. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 65 Posted March 6, 2006 So this is how you spent your weekend. . . . This is one of the most artistic dog shots that I have ever seen, Kim. Very nicely done. --Lannie Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted March 6, 2006 This is how I spent my weekend, Lannie - learning new software. I like it better when someone else learns it, then SHOWS me how to use it. I hate having to watch and do tutorials before I can dig in! :) Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted March 6, 2006 Your travail has been aptly rewarded,Kim. Stunning image with new software. Link to comment
markboyer 0 Posted March 6, 2006 Pretty intense, Kim. I've never heard of the Corel software. Do you really do the strokes individually? Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted March 6, 2006 I had never heard of it, either, Mark until our Camera Club meeting last week when I saw the results of it. We all thought the woman had brought oil paintings, but then she showed us the photographs she started with. She had 3 of them printed about 24"x36" on canvas and they fooled us all! You let the software program fill in some of the background and then if you want the "look" of oil strokes, you go and literally paint the strokes. I have a Wacom table, so used the pen tool with it and it worked well. You actually feel like you are painting - the "paint" flows like real paint. Pretty cool for $99!! Link to comment
