A fine stormy atmosphere. The tree is very good though I would have liked more interest in the foreground.

Very nice, one can almost feel the wind coming from the left side. There seems to be a fair amount of noise and underexposure in the background and in the foreground the light looks a bit harsh. Perhaps due to scanning? It's a fine composition though. Regards, Alex

Storm rolling in? I love how clouds just sort of sit on top of mountains. Again, another with the obvious wind in the palms. It adds a sense of motion. This is a bit too grainy for my taste, but some may want that much grain. All in all, I like that it gives me a sense of an incoming storm.

Thank you for all your comments. About the grain, it often happens that my dark skies are grainy or noisy on the photos that I load on photo.net, even though the original versions in larger format (from 2244 px up to 5000 px) are not grainy. Can somebody tell me why and what I have to do to avoid this ?

Wonderful moment you have captured here Henri. The approch of the threatening atmosphere is almost tangible. Great to see how the fierce wind dominates the appearance of the landscape and how the clouds trow their shadows over the sloops.

What concerns your problem with the grain and nois after you have changed the large format into a smaller one; It gives me the same problem and I have already asked many people for advice. But no one could help me. Wim told me that it has its cause by compression of the pixels. If you want to know more about this bothering phenomenon I advice you to ask him because he is able to explain it to you in all its details. I agree that it is very bothering and disappointing because an in essence crystal-clear picture changes into a noisy image after you have reduced the sizes. Pictures which get the most hit by it are the height ones (for example 640x450). To try to solve the bad look by sharpening just gives an even more worse result. The only thing (my experience) which helps to reduce the noise is to blur a little bit. But it's not really satisfying and mere eyewash. An other alternative is to take your pictures in a smaller format (less pixels, less compression by reducing) but I'm sure that that is not what you want. Well, alas I can't give you the golden tip, Henri. I hope there is someone else who can handle us the key.

Henry & Ada, I often use Neat Image to reduce noise and it really works fine. You may get a free version of it at www.neatimage.com. It's a must have. I don't know exactly why you get that noise, but perhaps it has to do with the scanning process? (if you do it). Greetings! Alex

Thank you Francesco. Glad that you like my Tuscan photos. Don't had you really seen them before ?

Thank you Alexandre. I know Neat image. I could have used it, but this is an additional treatment and I wonder if it is possible to not produce this grain when I reduce and compress the image for load it on photo.net. There is not so much grain in the original photo after scaned.

Hi Henri, I like the image itself, lone palm tree being thrusted into the scene with a interesting bg. But the noise is quite exessive. Concerning the noise - Now don't take my word for it but what i do is do all adjusting (contrast, colour correction etc) in it's largest format and only after i reduce the size for PN is when I sharpen. Sharpening before i resize always causes less than desirable results with noise and jpeg artifacts. Works for me anyhow. Regards
