namurray 0 Posted March 4, 2006 "Follow The Till" winning at Caulfield. An exercise in panning. Very difficult indeed with horse racing as you have to contend with vertical as well as horizontal motion. I used the IS feature on the Canon lens. Don't know if it helps that much in this situation. Comments appreciated. Link to comment
danblu 0 Posted March 17, 2006 I know it is difficult but looks like you are pretty well onto it Neil, certainly worth the effort as we can see here. great sense of movement, most impressed. cheers Peter. Link to comment

janet cull 0 Posted August 10, 2006 I love all your horse pictures! Especially this one and the jumping horses. I tried panning (is that how I'd say it?) last week at the beach and it just didn't work. This looks great! Makes me miss my Isabel. (She's a horse :o) Janet Link to comment
namurray 0 Posted August 11, 2006 Thanks very much Janet for your comments. Glad you like this one. I have done countless panning shots at slow shutter speeds without nailing many shots that were any good. It's difficult to get horse and rider reasonably sharp while getting the streaky motion blur in the background; mainly because the horse and jockey move in every direction rather than just horizontally. Wonderful creatures horses aren't they? Kind regards, Neil Link to comment
momente 0 Posted August 27, 2006 Ah... quite difficult to even get this amount of sharpening. I think it's a more than acceptable work, especially sice the horse's legs expand and create an interesting compositional effect. Link to comment
