I have NEVER seen a shot of one of these guys in-flight; and if I had, I'm sure it didn't offer such an awesome background. Great stuff, David - lookign forward to more...marking you as "interesting" to watch for updates!

This is one of my favorite all time captures. This was shot close to a

bird feeder an a conservation area. I liked the somewhat painterly

effect it has. This was not done in PS, I think it was because there

is a slight touch of motion blur. Some ps was done to lighten the shadows.

This is really nice... it's over sharpened though. I can see why you did that, but the halo artifact is a bit too much. It can be removed using the PS lasso tool and a recipe. That way you'd still have the interesting detail and a more natural transition from subject to background. -Greg-

David, You are an amature by choice only. Closeups of birds are not rare but shots of birds in flight are hard to do (hard enough to follow one with a normal lens let alone a properly focused 500mm) well. You raise the bar too high for most of us but it's consoling to know we can all come to your folder to experience these gems. Work like this won't go unnoticed for long. Best, LM.

I've been taking a few moments to view your photos. All are magnificent but this one - WOW! What an amazing action shot of a bird perfectly in focus. The background is balanced in color and texture. Lighting is amazing. I love the way the gray of the sky is reflected in the wing primaries. And of course the cardinal himself adds that punch of color that pulls your eye in again and again. Kudos!

Thanks for the smile on my face this morning.

Oh I also liked the yawning snowy owl. Number one for personality. Such boring business this finding of your next meal. I feel the same way about shopping too - LOL.
