blackdogstudio 1 Posted March 2, 2006 ...Beethoven wrote some lovely ones, and Sviatoslav Richter and Mstislav Rostropovich had some delightful collaborations with them... Lovely composition David. I've always loved how the cello mirrors the feminine form. Great Capture in the difficult setting of the recital hall. I am surprised at how much detail there is in the black areas, particularly the grand piano and the pianist's suit! Excellent work. Regards, Kelvin. Link to comment
thierrylaflamme 0 Posted March 2, 2006 David, the picture is absolutely PERFECT! Not easy to do it with artificial light, especially on a stage. Wow... nice shot, believe me! Link to comment

davidorea 1 Posted March 4, 2006 Thanks Richard, Alix, Klaus, Mari, Jose Miguel, Kelvin, Thierry, Shuki, Alberto for your comments. Kelvin, in fact the performance was a Beetho's work...although I had preferred another type of works ... 20th century works. Perhaps Kodaly, Bloch, Bartok, Sallinen or Panufnik works ... but nop ... the repertory was only Beetho's works ... so I decided taking pictures .... (...and of course enjoying the performance). ;) Link to comment
blackdogstudio 1 Posted March 4, 2006 ...In particular his sonata for unaccompanied cello. It is really a masterpiece! I can't seem to wrap my head around the Rachmaninov, Prokofiev or the Shostakovitch cello sonatas although these composers have all written works that I count among my favourites in the 20th Century repertoire. Regards, Kelvin. Link to comment
julio_segura_carmona1 4 Posted March 4, 2006 Un bellisimo encuadre, luz, y color sepia suave, las luces altas, bien salvadas, los tonos y encuadre, perfectos, un cordial saludo David. Link to comment
davidorea 1 Posted March 5, 2006 Julio, gracias por tu comentario. En efecto, salvar las luces altas no fue facil ! Kelvin, about Kodaly's Op.8 ... definitely a masterwork!. In fact, I might have this work with about 9 different performers. Tortelier, Perenyi and Turovski are my favorite. Yo-Yo Ma, Prieto and Kliegel constitute the next group. And I understand (and agree with!) what you mean when you say : << I can't seem to wrap my head around the Rachmaninov, Prokofiev or the Shostakovitch cello sonatas >>. And some day we should talk about Messiaen's "Turangalila" and/or his "Quatuor pour la fin du temps" :) Regards Link to comment
blackdogstudio 1 Posted March 5, 2006 ...WOW! You have nine versions?! Well...I am guilty of the same with some works. To really appreciate some works fully, one must listen to several interpretations! There are often inner voices and structual relationships that only some performers are able to access. I own one version, the Maria Kliegel on the budget label Naxos which is an excellent recording. It appears that I must listen to Messiaen's Truangalila-Symphone and the Quartet For the End Of Time with deeper interest from now on. I do own a recording of each work. However, because I am a PIANOPHILE, I am much more aquainted with his Catalogue d'oiseaux, Petites esquisses d'oiseaux and his Vingt regards sur l'enfant Jesus. Hey, I wonder if Julio ever serenades the birds with pieces from the Catalogue d'oiseaux? He takes such lovely bird photos. Nice hearing from you my friend. Regards, Kelvin. Link to comment
peta 0 Posted March 5, 2006 The choice of the sepia tones for this is perfect David, very classic looking...especially suitable for classical music! :) Looked like a beautiful concert. Link to comment
davidorea 1 Posted March 5, 2006 Thanks dear Peta for your kind comment. I had seen this photo in a dark blue tone, the which I liked... but later I saw the photo with this sepia tone and was the winner. Kelvin : Are you a Pianophile ? well ... I am a Cellophile, a Violinphile and of course a Pianophile too. :) About Messiaen's Catalogue d'oiseaux, Petites esquisses d'oiseaux and his Vingt regards sur l'enfant Jesus are very agreeable works. And I bet that at least Julio, Reencarnacion Cristalero and Gaetan Chevalier use the Messiaen's catalogue to attain their lovely birds photos. Best regards ! Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted March 6, 2006 The choice sepia for Beethoven's work is admirable. The image is,indeed, classic for composition, light, and conveying of moods.I like it very much,David. Link to comment
j_m_lee_photography 0 Posted March 6, 2006 The moment of silence and the "click" capture the moment. Beautiful indeed. Best Regards, David. Link to comment
elina_kangas 0 Posted March 6, 2006 Yes, as others have said, perfect, timeless. -And nice to read you listed Sallinen, too =) Not that I would know his production so well, but you like, among other things, something from my country. Besides me, of course =)) Joking, joking! Link to comment
davidorea 1 Posted March 6, 2006 Thanks Amal, Spencer, Elina and Peter for your kind and encouraging comments! Dear Elina: besides Sallinen...composers like Kuula, Rautavaara, Kokkonen, Lindberg, Madetoja, Merikanto, Segerstam and Salonen are among my favorite 20th century classical composers. They have really amazing works. Perhaps you have listened some Sibelius works, I think he is Finnish too... :=) Link to comment
