In this "kitchen" the jus of sugar cane is boiled until the water is

evaporated. What remains is a thick yellowish liquid, which forms a

solid crust while cooling down. The raw sugar is sold in the market

in the form of brown-white-golden hand fitting chunks. It is used

for sweetening food and drinks. Karl

I like this. The steam rising to the light gives a lovely, mysterious atmosphere. The almost silhoutted figure stirring the vat is in a natural pose, and the other people add interest and things to look at. Nice work.

outstanding capture of a magical phenomenon in the sub continent. but of course, never so brilliantly captured. superb, all the way. awesome light & such a brilliant documentary. pity that PN rating system not allowing a higher rating..but, dosn't matter 4 such great photographs. congrats!

Not far away from my "kitchen" I like it - of course. The "moment-charakter" too. Spontaneously I felt the (grade of) "absence" of the man in the background disturbing ..

Sarah, thanks for your comments. My roots are in Switzerland, currently I am in Pakistan and part of my heart is still in Nepal. Rarely I travel alone. Karl

Karl, I raved a lot on the first of these Gor pictures, and this is also beautiful. I cannot helpo comparing them, since the other is your favourite picture of mines. I've them side by side as I write, and I cannot decide which I like best. I guess there is some more "life" in the other one, mostly because of the man standing to the right, here. Conversely, the way the ceiling light and the smoke make a single aethereal presence throughout the frame, here, is marvelous.

Excellent shot. I very much like the whole atmosphere in this picture. The compostion is very well balanced, with the man leaning out of the doorway adding something special and a connection to the outside world.
