Annika Mellin of the Swedish band Paris

bueh

This shot was taken while the Swedish band Paris was performing in a very small venue. I was pretty close to the stage, probably less than 1.5 meter (5 feet) away from the singer. The viewfinder image was very dark and focusing was mostly guesswork, so I shot only three frames.
For this photo an Agfa Agfatronic 302 CSI flash gun was used in auto mode for f/5.6 with the reflector pointed about 45° upwards and the built-in diffuser fully extended. The camera was hand-held and background exposure was guessed. The image is cropped a little, but not manipulated. Scan from print.

I try new things from time to time. This time I hauled my RZ67 to a

local club to finish the last frames of a slow-speed B/W film. With a

cheap 70s flash unit for illumination I took this portrait of the

singer/guitarist of the Swedish indie pop band Paris.

Love the b&w. So smooth and wonderful in its tonality. Great shallow DOF too. Personal taste here would've been to have her looking directly into the lens, but again... just personal taste.

Very cool shot!
