was an important gateway on the ancient Silk Road. Monk Xuan Zang (602-664) of the Tang dynasty had preached in the city for the King of Gaochang during his pilgrimage to India for Buddhist scriptures.

Gaochang City consists of 3 parts: the outer city, the inner city & the palace city. The city walls are fairly well preserved & some other remains can still be seen

This is great, Cherlyn. At first I thoiught you had visited the Far West. LOve the tracks on the sand and that old coach, the flat rock formation.

Cherlyn,

I liked the photo very much, specially colors. I'm not sure if placing the carriage in the centre was the best choice. It would be interesting to see this scene if you tried to position it a bit off centre, either by moving the camera or by cropping it differently. Also, I'd like to see more detail in the cart (closer zooming). In any case, this is a lovely picture. Cheers.

I, like Paula, when I saw it I thought that you had gone to Utah or Arizona and that is what caught my attention. Beautiful composition and lighting. The cart in the middle does not bother me, in fact it gives more perspective to the mountains in the background.

I like it very much.

Well, I didn't realize this look like a movie setting from " Wild Wild West" till you guys/gals mentioned. Now I begin to nod my head :-)

As for the cart being too centralised, I tried cropping from the left, but somehow the crop doesn't work for me as I find something amiss.

Wow, Cherlyn! I love this. I had no idea that China had such areas of arid barrenness. This is a wonderful image, with your subject coming straight toward the camera. It's an interesting sky, too. Thank you for sharing China with us!

WOWOWOWOWOWOW! Great shot, Cherylyn. For once, I have to disagree with David. I think the central placement is what makes this picture. It gives it balance and force; you really feel the cart coming straight at you. Rules are made to be broken sometimes. I love the landscape and sky also. China is such a fascinating place. I've wanted to visit more for jsut this reason. China has the grandest, most expansive landscape I have ever seen (at least, seen in pictures). I will be visiting some this year, but I don't know if I will be able to get out of the cities or not ....

Cherlyn,I join all that was said already. The colors especially, the texture of the sand, the dust is very interesting, The carriage is a bit centered for my taste But I like the panoramic crop, and it is a very beautiful image. Pnina

Really nice shot. I think the cart in the middle is nice....it allows your eyes to travel with the road off to the right.

Thanks for sharing!

Nice picture. I guess you must be on the donkey cart in front to take this picture? If so, considering the bumpiness of the ride, you did a very good job of keeping the shot stable. Cheers.
