markboyer 0 Posted February 18, 2006 Cute guy. I like the expression and the slightly softened tonality. Link to comment
ljk 0 Posted February 18, 2006 You do portraits well...human and animal. This is one that any mother could love. The tones are really good, as is the lighting. The rope adds a nice compositional element, too. Link to comment
bentes_world 0 Posted February 18, 2006 This is TOP Kim. Sweet, cute, adorable perfect handle of the camera and very nice in in the tonality. Composition couldn't be better.... and the light is realy good too. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 18, 2006 More to come - I spent a lot of time at Orangutan section at the Houston Zoo, but the lighting was VERY low yesterday (rainy day), so had ISO bumped up in most shots. Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted February 18, 2006 Amazing photograph. Touches the emotions. Well done. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 18, 2006 Thanks, Howard. I'm going to do another "Expressions" series with my orangutan pictures. Last time, I took 5 - 5x7 images and framed them in one wide, narrow frame. It was very popular. Now I have some "new" expressions to do a second one. Link to comment

aepelbacher 0 Posted February 20, 2006 Yay!! More orangutans!! I'm glad that you got back to the zoo, Kim. This is wonderful - I love the strong diagonal created by the rope, the DOF ... and his expression is priceless. Link to comment
jasonwilliamsphotography 0 Posted February 20, 2006 Another great shot, perfect tones, nice texture, great detail with nice DOF:) Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 20, 2006 I took a lot of shots of the orangutans. Only wish the lighting had been better as I had the ISO bumped way up! Somehow, I feel like sepia works really well with the monkeys. Link to comment
donnaalbers 0 Posted February 20, 2006 You did a great job taking these Orangutang shots. . I have taken some shots there and personally, I think the diffuse lighting was in your favor. . I think it's a difficult place to shoot since normally the contrasts in lighting are very extreme. . . I'm curious as to how high you bumped your ISO. . . btw, this image is precious. . nice work. kslonaker 0 Posted February 21, 2006 I had it on ISO 640 for the first series of shots, but I believe this one was on the second go-round and was more like ISO 320, when it was a bit brighter out. Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted March 1, 2006 The lighting and the sepia tone add to the overall gentle look here. The rope is a great bonus composition wise, and the expression is so sweet. Makes you want to cuddle him! You should do a book! Leslie Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted March 2, 2006 Thanks, Leslie. I'll have to settle for a framed picture and notecards for now and not a book! :) Link to comment
donna_rice1 0 Posted March 11, 2006 this is beautiful, monkeys of any kind are a passion of mine, I have only gotten close to one once, I drove 3and a half hours to hold a baby monkey for about 15 minutes then drove home, it was well worth the trip, I have had a love for them since i was a child Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted March 11, 2006 Donna, I would love to hold a monkey - not sure that I would want to own one (more in concern for the monkey than to me), but they are so adorable. The orangutans are very amusing to watch. I do not enjoy seeing caged monkeys at all; they seem unhappy. These ones had quite a large space to play and move around in. Link to comment
