St. Joseph's ProtoCathedral. Among one of the first cathedrals built in the South. Shot in RAW.Curves/levels adjust Find edge overlay in a layer to define the columns edges.I have an image in my B&W folder similar that I shot a few years back with the 10D. Amazing the difference.

This image is very similar to another image in my B&W folder that I

shot a few years back with my 10D. Interesting difference. I will

post the image under this one. Please let me know what you think,

this is not my area of expertise, any suggestions &/or critique are

very welcome. Thanks for looking :)

Thanks Mark.

Ersagun- I'm not sure what you are saying? Are you saying the image is bad & the frame is good? It would be nice if you don't like the image if you would explain why? What is wrong, what should I have done differently, is the exposure, composition or detail poor? Is the lighting bad? Is my perspective choice not good? Please give me a few more details. It won't hurt my feelings, I put this up to learn. So have at it! :)

sorry Jayme, never meant to hurt your feelings!

Exposure is spot on. You'd not capture those coloumns better. What I mean is your framing encloses those coloumns that might (possibly) extend to infinity. So framing keeps the eyes on the subject. That is how I see it anyway. Keep up the good work..

The coloured one is far superior to the "old" B&W one in that it is much less aggressive. The pastel colours are great - which do not show up in B&W. Tempted to run the image thru Buzz simplifier?

Please do, I'd love to see it! I ran it through a filter I have that does a Velvia conversion attempt. It actually was not too bad. When I took the previous image the stone bases were painted a light green (?) Who thought that up? :) The color is much better now.

I believe that both of these images work very well..I think i may have cropped some of the nearest column as it dominates the shot a little too much.

Thanks Kevin- you may be right. It is dominating. Maybe just enough that it falls within the "rule of thirds". A good idea. I wonder if I just stretch the canvas if that would work. Have to try it. Thanks for stopping by:)

Is this what you are thinking?

Call it a coincidence. Only yesterday did I read something about repetitive patterns, and now I find this perfect example! :o)

I tend to like the crop a little better since I find the bright white on the left side a tiny bit too harsh. But for the rest I just love this photo. Wonderful.

Thanks Isle. Strange how things like that work. Every once in a while I wake up & think to myself, today I'm going to look for the color yellow (verticle lines, horizonal lines, red, etc, whatever) Then, by God, there they are. I notice things I wouldn't have see. Amazing how the brain works:)

I really like the pale colors here vs the B&W version from before. I also find the vertical lines tapering off into the distance very appealing visually. The columns seem so large and sturdy and since they seem to go on forever, it makes you imagine the building to be incredibly large and important, yet graceful due to the soft colors. Does that make sense? Anyway, this is certainly eyecatching and technically well done. Nice! Leslie

Thanks Leslie- It is a pretty big place. One of our area's claim to fame. The first Catholic Cathedral built in the South (? I think, something like that). Lots of Monasteries & Mother Houses around here. (I'm not Catholic) Big time Catholic settlement. There's an image of the cathedral in totality in my new stuff folder.

Amazing place, inside & out :)
