jmacneil 0 Posted October 29, 2001 Please rate and comment! is this cropping effective? (original is in my folder) is there anything i could do to improve it? this was shot with macro lens--what do you think of the depth of focus it created? check out my folders too please. thanks! Link to comment
bas1 0 Posted October 29, 2001 Haven't seen the original yet, but this looks great to me. Very effective and I can't see any obvisous ways you could improve on it. I've seen your folder and it too is very impressive. If there is one thing I would try to do it would be to enhance the highlights on the black keys in the lower left corner (perhaps) just to see if that brings more life to that dark corner. The crop is effective and DOF is very subtle. Link to comment
imaginator 0 Posted October 29, 2001 I've heard it said that a real friend will tell you your faults... honestly, there are a few things that bother me about this image: not enough detail of the black keys (needs better lighting, maybe fill light), focus should be shifted back towards hand, and a bit less motion blur of hand. I haven't seen original yet, but composition is fine anyway. A faster film might help get better depth of field (using smaller aperture), or you could try to time it so the hand isn't moving quite as fast and use a longer shutter speed since piano doesn't move... hope this helps. stephen_bate 0 Posted October 30, 2001 Nice idea, just doesnt quite work for me, IMHO 50% more DOF would have been better Link to comment
lex_jenkins 13 Posted April 13, 2002 I love this photo. This crop cuts right to the heart of the image. The in-focus keys in the low foreground are all I need to satisfy my desire for some grounding. The shallow DOF and blur really make this image. I looked at the others and this is the best. A minor nit - there is a nearly horizontal, thin, irregular white line near the lower right corner that is distracting. Whether it's a dust spot or odd highlight, I'd be inclined to touch it out.
