I don't quite get it. Blind justice is usually comparing something (usually lacking) to some weighty (heavier) standard. Here you have two equivilant substances of equal import. I can't guess the title, since my knowledge of latin/romance languages is too miniscule. But I'm assuming that this is an allusion to blind justice.

I like the shapes in the stucco/brick wall background. To me the shapes suggest continents, and perhaps some sort of political connotation. Perhaps you could chip the walls in your studio, or your neighbor's building to create a stronger suggestion of the global map...

I like the model's pose, but think that smaller "scales" and the assymetry of a high side and a low side might improve the composition with a suitably posed model. Where's the sword?

I don't like the lampshades as substitute scales, but perhaps you could work with that concept: in your composition, the substance being weighed looks like sawdust or something opaque and non-lumiscent. Using a light source in the scale "pans" might add something new to an old metaphor: now we see that justice Illuminates some truths.

That could also be interesting, photographically.

My main appreciation of this photo is the concept of using a nude justice as an intrinsic part of the scales of justice: Truth is necessary to achieve justice, and sometimes this truth is intimate and personal, or perhaps shameful, or perhaps beautiful.

I also like the chunks of plaster/stucco on the floor. This adds interest and ties the background and the foreground together conceptually.

Perhaps the shapes in the plaster are intended to suggest angelic wings, but the shape is not stereotypical of that form.

Anyway, the photo obviously evoked a lot of interesting impressions, at least interesting to me.

I'd think very hard about what ought to be on the scales.

My first thought of the brickwork was a world map, I had to look to see the wall. My impressions is that maybe everyone is equal around the globe. Either that, or it's a really difficult way to spend Easter!

Very good work

Nice shot, well excuted, despite what "others would do if they attempted such a shot" comments. Would be interested to hear your reasonings for the way you wanted this to be shown...your inspiration/reason for shooting it the way you did, since this is obviously not an attempt to "copy" the stereotypical Blind Justice image (which would be boring anyway).

Sure I've got opinions, but I'd rather get a presumptious critique than none at all, and I critique in that spirit. I didn't say that my way was the right way, I just said what my bias/reaction was. Isn't art supposed to evoke a reaction. Clearly this photo is art, and I think that my reaction, though frank, recognized its value. No insult whatsoever was intended. I regard a critique of "Great work!" as very encouraging, but virtually worthless in stimulating my own thought processes and understanding. I'd rather have a more thoughtful/verbose/pedantic critique any day, even if the thoughts are somewhat primitive, such as mine may be. It depends what you're after in a critique. Perhaps some like my comments. Those that don't are encouraged to disregard. I compared my rating with other's ratings afterwards, and found that I was neatly less than a fraction of a point from the average, so I know that from that perspective that I didn't devalue this very creative piece. Sometimes it's the MOST creative work that spawns an explosion of perceptions in the viewer. Perhaps my stream of conscienceness reaction gives honor to the artist. I hope so. That was my intent.

First, I would like to thank everyone for your comments, in special you Scott because you and another friend of mine, Anatol Poiata determined me to take measures respect scales and bring them some improvements, and like that I have varnished and I renewed the session/ shooting by replaceing that 2 scales in photoshop. I thank all of you...and God bless you !

I know everyone else is giving these great critiques with very profound opinions, but I have a more simple question. How did she lateral raise that much weight??? Sand weighs a lot, and she doesn't even look like she's trying.
