jstyles 0 Posted February 14, 2006 What a beautiful wise old woman (making assumptions here about age...). Apart from her expression, the light is lovely and soft, the colour and tonal range beautiful and the composition very well balanced (though a small crop off R works well for me too). The only thing I might consider is increasing the contrast in her eyes to reduce the glare of the reflection there and let them stand out more. Very nice. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted February 16, 2006 I'm with Julie, here. It's so easy to be disneyesque and humanise their expressions, and one cannot do anything else than reading wisdom, here. A great animal portrait, to me, is one which switches on these associations. This, for sure, does! Nitpicking: face a bit too much in the centre of the picture, what about getting something off the left? Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted February 16, 2006 Salvatore, you're right about it being centered and aesthetically taking some off the left would probably be good idea. I made 12x18" (30x45 cm about) print of this and framed it for my daughter. By the way, Abby is by far the prettiest, sweetest, and most faithful (and golden retrievers are a very faithful breed) golden retriever I've ever had (I've had 4). Sadly, she's also by far the least intelligent! Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted February 16, 2006 Mark, thanks for the nice comment. Julie, thanks for stopping by. I really like your dog photos and agree about the eyes. I'll try playing around with them some. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 18, 2006 Well, intelligence isn't everything, thankfully :)...I love the golden softness with black background. Nice new bio pic, although I miss the smile :) Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 18, 2006 Love the furrowed brow. Agree a little off the left would be beneficial. Her expression kind of matches your new bio pic. You both seem to be in deep thought. Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted February 24, 2006 Interesting light. Following some of the other comments I took the liberty of cropping the shot. I didn't crop too tight on the left because I didn't want to lose the depth which I feel makes this shot special. Cropping also makes the image a bit more dynamic to my eye. As always, if you mind, I won't hesitate to remove it. cheers, Aaron Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted February 24, 2006 I also wanted to add that even if this were in black and white (not that I'm saying it should be) it is amazing how different our shots are in the expressions they have captured. Unfortunately, Duncan is not too bright, either, but we love him anyway. I just hope my sister doesn't read that... Link to comment
