We got some snow last night, so I went downtown this morning to see what I could see. Here's one for you - this little family was having a great time building this snowman not too far from the Capitol building. Enjoy!!

Too bad the bus is in the way. That is my problem with taking shots in DC as well. Sometimes you have to be very patient waiting for the non-essential elements to hurry up and get out of the way. Had about 3 in. down in Solomons last night.

We are still digging out with 18 inches on the ground. Can't get out of my street to shoot anything.

BTW: Nice shot. Has a 1950s feel to it. I don't know why?

Brrrr! Cold scene! We had 28 degrees here last night - our "winter" for this year. It's the first time in 14 months it's gone below freezing. :)

Lou Ann, we started at 7:15 at the Daughters of the American Rev., then we headed for the back of the White House. We just walked around taking photos of any and everything benches, trees, etc. It must have been around 10:00 when we went to the Capitol. We went back to our room and lunch about 10:30. After an early lunch we headed out again to the other monuments and headed for home at 1:00. With hoods, hats and cameras in our faces I can see how we could miss each other if it wasn't a planned meeting. Eventually we will run into each other. Cheers, Sondra

Nice image Lou Ann, a landscape so unusual for me...I think it is really nice to build snow statues. Pnina

Lou Ann, nice composition and I think that black & white works well here. We only got couple inches this morning in Mukilteo, but already a cause for 2 hour school delay!

If there's something I did not see in Wash. DC, then its a snowman in front of the Capitol :)

Lou Ann, this is a great and funny shot!!! super :) You've got a lot of snow, indeed. We've only got rain today... and gastly wind :(

But being on PN is so nice that I don't care about the weather ;)

Are those UFOs to the right of the dome? I don't usually catch little things like that, and they were probably birds or planes but I just HAD to ask...that being DC and everything (grin)

Totally taken with a sense of humor, Pauline! :-) Yes - they are birds. There are always lots of them flying around the monuments ... I think it's because of the reflecting pools.

This is a fun image of normal activity on Capitol Hill after a snow storm ( or is it?). I'm guessing it doesn't happen too often. I like the placement of the dome/diagonnaly opposed to the snowman. Nice contrasts and a good choice for B/W !

Washington doesn't often get more than a dusting of snow ... maybe once or twice a winter. So, when the snow happens on a weekend, everyone likes to have fun with it. Probably wouldn't have happened if it had been a weekday snow. Thanks, all, for visiting!

Hi Lou Ann. First off, thanks for commenting on my photo from Kenya ;) About your photo, I really like the way you've placed the Capitol building in your image. The issues I have with it are that:

1. The sky looks very pixellated. Not sure why. Have you tried to use a selective blur to even out the tones there?

2. It might be my monitor but I reckon the bus and the "snowman sculptors" are so underexposed as to cause a competing focal point. Have you tried to use the dodge tool in PS (or similar) and see what you get? Just so they can blend in more with the overall light wintry tones of the image and ensure the focus remains on the Capitol.

That's just my two cents on this one. I could be wrong :)

Warm regards from Kenya :)
