will king 0 Posted February 9, 2006 Great catch light in the eyes Jayme. What kind of lighting do you use for these types of shots? Link to comment

jayme 0 Posted February 9, 2006 Thanks all- This is a continuation of my controlled over exposure. I shot this the day before I broke my arm :( Just found it!!!!! Anyway, I had 2 big softboxes @ 90 degrees on either side 3 feet away. 2 background lights to blow out the background. I over-exposed the image on purpose, shooting in RAW. I then reclaimed some of the detail in the outlines. It makes the eyes really stand out because they are the darkest & less over exposed. This type of set up was used back in the 50's called "white on white". I am assuming it is much easier to do with film if you develop your own images. But it works pretty well if shot in RAW. Fun experiment! This also makes for a neat image to hand color. I'm learning to hand-color with oils. This will be one I do. Can't wait! Link to comment
doug bowles 0 Posted February 9, 2006 Whomever rated this photo a "3" for aesthetics obviously doesn't get it...this is a great photo. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted February 9, 2006 Doug, the idiot who rated this a 3 is not rating it based on any merits of the photo. He/she rated it a 3 to be an @55. I hate cowardly anonymous rates. Jayme, I know you could care less about numbers, but this crap pisses me off. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted February 10, 2006 Not to worry, you are right, I TRULY DON'T CARE! :) Thanks PN. When you irritate the right people, this is their punishment. Silly! Actually, I find the most interesting images in the middle of the TRP, just where I want to be :) I see it as a reward! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 10, 2006 Love your light and tritone effect dear Jayme :) I thought that it was a kind of high key effect :) superb as always dear jayme :):) I read the discussion about 3/3 and it makes me nervous, cause I think that there are at least 3 persons on PN, who are doing it on purpouse and this is really irritating, but we cannot control that, so we have to enjoy the photographs for themselves not for the rating, right? Have a lovely and creative weekend dear Jayme! B:l:ana Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 11, 2006 The eyes really stand out with this effect. Nice work, Jayme! Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted February 12, 2006 Pulok- no real PS work here, this was a controlled over-exposure with lights, the only PS was to crop, desaturate & change to a tritone. The real image is as it came from the RAW image. Link to comment
dougbraz 0 Posted February 13, 2006 Viewing "large" takes this picture from really good to BRILLIANT. Great portrait. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted February 13, 2006 Thanks Doug- I still haven't figured out how to make a thumbnail look as good as the real thing. I hate converting to sRBG, the color sat. is missing, in small versions you have to over-sharpen to make something look decent, I hate that too, so I'm stuck with hoping people actually look at it "large" before they make a decision, yay or nay. Thanks for taking the time! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted February 14, 2006 I love the touch of sepia in the tri-tone here. It's a wonderful finishing touch. The crop is also very good. But the BEST thing about this image is his HAIRCUT!! :-) Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted February 15, 2006 Neat style isn't it? Makes me giggle! :) Thanks Lou Ann:) Link to comment
