pnital 36 Posted February 9, 2006 The Niger river is the arthery of life for Mali people. It is a shallow river in parts, and instead of using oars, they use a long stick to push the boats. In deeper water the bigger boats have an engine. Please comment your thoughts, Pnina Link to comment
dileepsinha 0 Posted February 9, 2006 thanks pnina for the picture. very well composed and exposed. the indrawn perspective is quite interesting, gives me a sense of possession. Link to comment

jim kerr 0 Posted February 9, 2006 Oh my Pnina, do you suppose that guy (topmost in your frame) is cold, he looks as though he is wearing a winter coat......Neat the way 5 boats are all grouped together the way they are.....Jim Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted February 9, 2006 Thanks to all of you. I liked the way the boats were gathered together a bit like a flower petals... Jim, it can be windy enough while on the water. Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted February 9, 2006 They shaped a flower with their boats. Love those boat-petals and like the sepia choice. Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted February 9, 2006 Water sustains all our lives but for these people it is their lifesblood. I love that Paula saw a "flower" here, the composition is truly symbolic of life blossoming upon the water. Perfect DOF with sharp focus throughtout and excellent toning. Link to comment
sarahunderhill 1 Posted February 9, 2006 Great composition here w/ the boats! And the guy w/ the jacket, well it is their winter! Link to comment
schneekranich 0 Posted February 9, 2006 kind of a genre-stillife, effectively composed and very natural - a real "Pnina's" Link to comment
kim_tural 0 Posted February 10, 2006 Wonderful choice of sepia tones for this one, kind of a natural I guess. Interesting, I count 4 of the men wearing long sleeves and they are all wearing long pants. I'm thinking it must be a protection against the relentless sun. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted February 10, 2006 its a dying art around here, these sorts of documentary shots; don't you know, i've been looking for one for about ten minutes and it would be yours! a clever placement of the boats, a pleasing tone, makes this worthwhile. thanks for sharing it. Link to comment
abintraphoto 0 Posted February 10, 2006 Yes, competition for the best parking places is the same the world over ....... )-; Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted February 10, 2006 Thanks Pnina for sharing this, I have looked it a long time, and it seems they are looking at something, and waiting for something, which make them very angry and impatient. Except for the little boy (looking at his back) having his arms around another boy...... Link to comment
reddoor 0 Posted February 10, 2006 It is hard to get a photograph like but you have done it very well - a photograph of life in an artful way. Love it. Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted February 10, 2006 Paula and Susan, I'm glad you saw as well the petal shape that kept my attention... Sarah and Kim, it can be quite windy on the water, and long cloths protect themfrom the sun on shore.Their winter is 37c, Summer is about 47C!! Ben, documentary is dying? can you explain that? Ken, long time , glad to see you. Els, they look for work, life is very hard there. Chris and Amal, thank you both. Pnina Link to comment
