Yes, carbon fiber with gimbal head (Gitzo 1348 with Wimberly head). I also use an electronic cable release and appropriate long lens technique. I bracket and take three rapid exposures per image. After much practice, I am getting better at keeping the images sharp. This bird was about 10 meters away. The lens setup is Nikon 500mm f4 AF plus TC 1.7. With the DSLR, equiv FL is 1300mm.
