janpeter 0 Posted February 7, 2006 In English this is known as "storm in a tea cup". I tried to visualize the concept before, but was never satisfied with the results. So I did the shooting again with new lighting and a new camera position. Link to comment

jc-photography 0 Posted February 7, 2006 I think the concept is excellent Jan and the lighting is superb. I haven't had any experience with highspeed flash photography but I can appeciate the patience and creative vision required to light glass successfully. Well done. As for 'the glass looks warped a quarter of the way down' is that a critique of the photographers work or the glass manufacturers choice of design? Link to comment
gregscott 0 Posted February 8, 2006 I really like the detail. I thought it was a Tempest in a Teacup... Anyway, the glass IS warped 1/4 way from the top. This makes it stronger. Link to comment
janpeter 0 Posted February 8, 2006 Yes, you are right, the shape of the glass is warped. Thought it might emphasize the top of the swirl. However some people took this as sign that the swirl was simply copied into the glass (which it wasn't). Link to comment
dexdee 0 Posted February 8, 2006 If something is interesting, than it's this. Can you please describe some technically information about this? Thanks, DDD Link to comment
janpeter 0 Posted February 8, 2006 Actually the setup was quite simple: The glass was standing on a white cardboard inside an improvised light-box (IKEA curtain). Two external flashes from either side for the lighting. And the secret of the swirl: A 5 Euro milk frother. Link to comment
galimage 0 Posted February 8, 2006 yours is much better than my try this afternoon. I tried doing the same thing but the result is amazing in yours ! Brilliantly done ! Have a lovely day Isa Link to comment
mauricio alcaraz carbia 0 Posted February 8, 2006 Such a clever idea so well ejecuted. Darn! Wish I had thought about this... Link to comment
paul_burnett 0 Posted February 9, 2006 I love this shot. The glass is not warped, this is a normal English pub pint glass. The bulge is to stop the glass slipping out of your hand once you have had a few beers. Link to comment
janpeter 0 Posted February 9, 2006 Yes, I also tried to use a wine glass first but was unable to produce a decent swirl. Same effect as it was shown in your picture. Apart from this I think your picture still has a good potential if you increase contrast. Link to comment
marco_ruggiero 0 Posted February 9, 2006 Great image, and well conceived and certainly original. Well done Link to comment
thelegend1472 0 Posted February 10, 2006 my comment was well..just a comment. i like it i just thought it was weird and wasn't thinking the glass was made this way. thought maybe it was altered. kind of a weird place to have the glass flow out like that. especially since this particular glass seems to be proportionate every where else. good photo. thanks for posting how it was made. ikea is taking over the planet! janpeter 0 Posted February 10, 2006 Yes, Bryan - and the warped glass was also from IKEA ;-) Link to comment
