pnital 36 Posted February 7, 2006 Howard Typical Yes, but Typical as well is your good cropping. I like the situation of the bright and dark side division. Her figure in the frame is very well taken IMO, and lighting is great. Pnina Link to comment

aepelbacher 0 Posted February 7, 2006 Typical is right! LOL!! The rule at our middle school is that the phones MUST be kept in the locker and powered off. Most of the kids, though, keep them in their pockets (and most keep them powered off ... although forgetfulness often sneaks in at the wrong time!) It's especially funny when a kid with REALLY tight pants keeps the phone in the FRONT pocket. Yeah, like they're hiding anything. Hah! Anyway - when you stand outside of the school at dismissal time, the cell phones ALL get whipped out of the pockets & bookbags and you see this stream of kids flipping them open and dialing. And my thought is always: "who in the heck are they all so anxious to be calling!!??" It's amazing. I couldn't think of someone to call on my way out of work every single day if I thought about it for a long time. :-) Oh - back to the photo. (And off of the soap box.) This gal is really very attractive. You caught a pretty expression on her face. I hope that her conversation was a pleasant one. Must have been cold there. As usual, your B&W candids are fabulous ... the tones, the crop, the composition ... wonderful!! Link to comment
kleintje 0 Posted February 8, 2006 Great capture! Strange how people these days think they can go wherever or do whatever they want to, without noticing their lives are dictated by this little pocket thing; like being free but able to be controlled at any place at any time, and nobody seems to care about it... (needless to say perhaps I often forget where I put mine and have to think/search whenever I need it? ;) Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 10, 2006 This is generating some interesting conversation. I like it, too. I wasn't sure if the bright spot in the upper right background should be cloned or not. I do think it brings balance to the background, so I'm not sure if I would prefer it gone or not. Congratulations on the success of your one-man show, Howard!!!! Link to comment

ransford 0 Posted February 12, 2006 My take is the story...or the story I imagine. Her expression is problemmatic. I think you have caught her in a thought, just before she has processed it, as if she has just received information and doesn't know whether it's good or bad. Link to comment

Phil_Light 795 Posted May 25, 2006 I feel like you're really accumulating a great collection of the portraiture of American culture. The young, the old, children, teens, Blacks, Whites, Native Americans, Hispanics, and folks of every conceivable ethnic background. This really could become a true testament of the times, if it isn't that already? The more I see of it (your imagery), the more I realize the significance of your work in documenting our culture. I really feel like it might be the time to apply for a grant or endowment? You appear to have amassed such a significant body of work that it seems deserving of immortalizing it in some way. I hope someone who is more familiar with this type of process will direct you toward fulfilling such a goal. Simply marvelous body of work, I want to commend you not only for each single image but for the amazing compilation of such works! Link to comment
