Wonderfull picture, Ada. I had the same pleasure last weekend. One difference: I forgot my camera.

Viewing it larger I?m asking myself what the guys in the background are doing. Greetinx Edgar.

Yes, I've enjoyed the ice the last week. It's seldom that we get the chance to skate on natural ice and I don't like the ice rink. Too crowdy. You wonder what the boys are doing there? Well, it looks if they are trying to save somebody who fell through the ice but no, luckily they only take a break after they had played hockey. It's an enormous pool (only 2 kilometers from our home)and it was only frozen for a part. The other part was still open for the water birds.

I hope we will get another period of frost the coming month. O, and if it comes to skate again don't forget your camera Edgar! I look forwards to see your winter pictures. Warm greetings, Ada:~)

A simple atmospheric description of a frozen Dutch pool in the late

afternoon. I'll appreciate your constructive comments. Ada.

Cold in your country but spring in mine, actually spring/summer throughout the year. No natural ice to skate so I can only admire yours :-)

I think it may be improved by waiting untill the skater is not obscuring the others lying on the ice, Good capture of the skater though.

GEWELDIG, kijk eens Ada hoe prachtig het licht op de linker schaats valt, kleuren zijn nog mooier, lijkt wel wat op mijn foto van frozen silence, qua kleur.

 

Je nieuwe bio is ook ERRUG prachtig, en natuurlijk moet je verlegen zijn om hem helemaal te laten zien, laat die kerels maar fijn ..... nou je snapt me wel.

 

En ook heel verrassend is dat het gezicht verdwijnt in de bomen en je ziet alleen een mooi klein sterretje, ook en reflectie van de zon denk ik, enn die 3 lui liggend op het ijs maken het helemaal af.

I agree with you John about the position of the skater but it was just a spontaneous shot, nothing special and not meant to post it. But when I came at home and I saw the nice colours and soft light of the shot on my computer screen I couldn't resist to place it on PN. But I'm glad you like it.

 

Ha Els, nou ik ben echt blij met jou enthousiaste reactie hoor. Zoals ik al tegen John zei, het is helemaal geen bijzondere foto, een doodgewoon Nederlands ijstafereeltje. Al hoewel zo doodgewoon is het ook niet dat we dit meemaken toch? In mijn herinnering lagen in mijn kinderjaren elke winter de grachten wel dicht en konden we schaatsen. Nou, vorige week was het weer voor het eerst sinds vier jaar.... heerlijk joh, dat sfeertje! Jij als doorgewinterde Friezin (ik vermoed althans dat je dat bent maar misschien zit ik er wel helemaal naast) zal er ook wel van houden.

 

Wat de foto betreft: ik vind net als jij het licht en de kleuren ook zo mooi. Ik was pas vrij laat in de middag bij dat ven en had ook helemaal niet meer verwacht dat ik nog mooie foto's zou kunnen maken. Maar gelukkig scheen er nog een zwak zonnetje en dat maakte dat het toch nog goed uitpakte. De dag erop ben ik zelf gaan schaatsen maar toen heb ik mijn camera maar thuis gelaten.

 

Mijn biopic .... ja dat was lachen. Dat kleine kiekje is net voldoende:))) Ik had mijn hele familie hier op bezoek vanwege mijn verjaardag. In de loop van de avond zijn mijn zusje, Wim en ik er even tussen uitgepiept. We hebben ons rot gelachen. Wim heeft zich lekker kunnen uitleven met mijn camera. Alleen gaan die foto's niet op PN, dat snap je. Ik heb wel een reputatie op te houden.....:0))))

 

Ik zal eens even naar jou frozen silence komen kijken. Titel komt me wel bekend voor, misschien heb ik hem al wel gezien? ..... Ja, ik wordt oud lol

Nice moody shot of late afternoon on the pond. I really like you DOF here, how the skater is in focus and I also like how the sun is shining on the blade of the skate and the skater's face.

I don't want to upset you but I am obliged to say that this is not a very good photo. The head of the first skater is hardly visible in front of the background and he is hiding another skater laying on the ice. I think you had to wait that he was nearer of the camera to take the shot and try to compose the image.

Sorry to be critic, but you can also critic my photos, and this will be with more pleasure that I will read a bad critic from you rather than never a comment.

why should I be upset? You're only telling me your honest opinion and I appreciate that. I've already mentioned that this isn't a great shot because I realize that the quality is under average. The only reason I've placed it is that I liked to share the mood on the pool. If you ask me why I didn't choose to post a better picture, the only answer I can give you is that I don't have a better one. I can't take pictures with my gloves on and it was damned cold. So after five shots I've packed it in.

 

I hope the frost will still return this month so I'll get the chance to make the perfect picture, especially for you Henri!

Ja Ada, als ik dit zie heb ik al weer spijt dat ik vorige week niet even mijn schaatsen heb onder gebonden.

Prachtig hoor, die jongelui liggend op het ijs.

Het is gewoon een heerlijk plaatje! Ik heb dit jaar helaas geen ijspret weten vast te leggen met mijn camera maar wie weet wat voor moois er nog voor mijn lens komt..........

Wim, dank je wel voor je lieve commentaar op mijn simpele fotootje. Want zo voelt het wel na al dat moeilijke PS gedoe van de laatste tijd. Even iets gewoons er tussen door. Veel van dit soort foto's heb ik anders ook niet kunnen maken hoor want ik was veel te druk bezig mijn eigen baantjes te trekken. En met mijn camera het ijs op dat doe ik maar liever niet. Ik heb een vader onderuit zien gaan mijn zijn dure digale. Trok over het ijs de slee voort waarop zijn zoontje zat. Camera bungelde voorop zijn borst en ja hoor daar ging ie .....

 

En ja wat dat schaatsen betreft; ik denk dat je je kans voorbij hebt laten gaan jongen, want het ziet er voorlopig niet naar uit dat het nog hard zal gaan vriezen. Doe voortaan net als ik: haal bij het eerste nachtvorstje je schaatsen uit het vet en leg ze onder de kapstok. Hoe het werkt ik weet het niet maar het is mij nog nooit gebeurt dat ik ze zonder er op gereden te hebben weer naar zolder kon brengen. 'De invloed van het positieve denken', denk je ook niet lieve broer?

excellent composition, leaving room for the skater to glide into. capturing the skater, with the children in the back makes for a lovely outdoor family image. well done Ada !

Hoi Mike! Ja ziet er heerlijk vertrouwd uit he? Jammer dat we dit nog maar zo weinig meemaken de laatste jaren.

 

Dear Detlef what a wonderful job you've done to this shot. Thank you for that! It's great to see how the 'dull' part at the right has changed into an intensive salmon-coloured sky. Your treatment gives the whole picture a more intensive and attractive look.

May I ask you how you have reached this effect? Big hug for your effort, Detlef!

Thanks Ada ! select an area than use the gradient tool in photoshop..also I used lighting technique to high light the main scater a bit more to define him from the others..so that they are just supporting him in the image..

I am glad you like my treatment...this was the first time I have ev er bothered with an image from another photographer...I was very hesitant to do this...but you are such a kind person Ada

and I have come to enjoy your work as much as your sensetivity in regards to your comments to photographers.

I'm very happy with your explanation of the treatment you have used to give my original picture that special look. I'm here to learn more about photography and how to use PS so I really appreciate it when people take the effort to give me a constructive critique or just like you have done; work on my picture to reach a better result. And to be honest I don't know how to react on the praise you give to me Detlef ... you make me feel pretty shy. But I know what you mean and I thank you for your wonderful evidence of our friendship!
