"Balloon Scapes"

jayme

ISO 800, F5.6, 1/25, 65mm I took this aprox. 2 weeks after I broke my arm, had a cast on the right hand, used my husband's should to stablize this shot, pushed the button with the left hand. I then realized I could not take any pictures on my own. Adjustment to levels & saturation.

Comments & critiques always welcome. Thanks for looking :)

Spending my time processing some images I took a while back. Right

arm & hand is healing well, 3 more weeks until I get the OK for full

use. Seems like a lifetime away!

Will- Besides the usual levels, color balance & hue/saturation adjustments, because of the high ISO (800, I used the filter:noise/dust/scratches. Luckily, because of only the 2 colors, it worked well. I then overlayed a gradient that I designed, I call it my "Blind" gradient. I adjusted it to enhance the light rays hitting the balloon. It also worked pretty darn well. That's about it.

I learned something about PN, my images were looking pretty bad when I put them up at my regular 1000x whatever. They looked good in Large, but the regular image had so much artifact compression placed on it by PN it looked horrible, not like the original at all. So now, I've decided that nothing larger than 700x whatever. Looks much, much better on PN. Not sure if it's my color space or what, I use Adobe 98, not RGB. Maybe this is it??

Jana- Thank you:)

Mark- I broke my arm Sept 4th 04. I broke both radial & ulna (the ulna in 2 places). I've had 2 surgeries. The last one was Dec 21 & involved a T-plate with 7 screws, plus a radial bone graft. The bone graft was healing well as of Jan 26, I return on Feb 28th for another check. It takes anywhere from 2-6 months for a bone graft to completely heal. Mine was a pretty big bone graft, but the plate helps keep everything stable. However, lifting is out. For me, nothing much over a full cup of coffee. I cheat every now & then & take a few pictures with the 20D. I get yelled at by my family!!!:( But 99% of the time I'm pretty good because after I cheat my arm hurts like $%^& ! Thanks for asking :)

Jayme, I have started posting using the sRgB whatever...Bryan Oleson gave me specific instructions on one of my recent shots (one of the pelicans) because I couldn't figure out how to do it. I am AMAZED at the difference! Now when I post, it looks just like my original shot. I even went back and reposted a couple of my newer ones that I wasn't satisfied with. I use PS CS and he uses PS7, the command is there on both, just in different places. Let me know if you want more detail on figuring this out.

Thanks Kim, that solves a mystery :) I think I know how to change it to sRgb. I'll try and if it doesn't work, I'll email you.

Thanks Sarah, appreciate it!:)

Jayme, this is one great image. Love the lines and great color. I also had problems until I switched to sRGB and I like you don't submit antything greater than 700X.

Jayme, Terrific lines and a nice balance of blue and white. Glad to hear that arm of yours is coming along. I can't imagine not being able to hold a camera for months. I might have to break down and buy a Leica (or some other lightweight rangefinder)

How did I miss this? Very simple but not so simple to get such a good result. Call me a purist but I would love to see the white and blue meet in the corner.

Thanks All

David- I thought the same thing, but.... when I cropped it, I didn't like it. I thought it looked like a sand dune at the beach under a true blue sky or a hill covered with snow, so..... I decided to leave the crop as it was. :) I thought about drawing in a little tiny person on a sled.... but then I decided against it, good thing I can't draw, it would have been a stick figure!

ISLE- here's the original with only levels adjusted. It does kind of look computer generated :) But it's not. There's a nice sized blob of dust on the lense, the balloon glow was in a really dusty field. I took these before it got dark, I did not bring a tripod. Had 2 grandkids, 2 kids, a husband & a mother with me, along with a brand new cast on the right arm. No room for a tripod. :)

Jayme, reading what/who you all took with you, I'm rather surprised you actually managed to get the camera in there somewhere! ;)

Also glad to hear/read your hand is healing well!
