A poem placed on the fence outside the OKC Murrah Building Bombing

Memorial. Suffering the effects of time, but still strong enough to

bring back painful memories. Time heals some things, and wounds

others.

Barry, great capture. I like the graininess of this photo. My only suggestion is not to use the embossing on the frame for this type of photo, but that maybe just personal taste. Were you effected by this tragedy in any way?

I was in OKC at the time. Was sitting in a government building about five miles away, talking with another guy in his office. The building we were in was made to "withstand anything" including being shielded in skin that protects documents from gamma rays. The whole building shook when the exposion took place. I remember saying "Maybe we should all go home now." Then just a few minutes later, pandemonium broke loose. We had a neighbor whose husband died in the building, and knew a few other people who were affected. I got lots of calls and emails from people who knew I was in OKC, asking if I was OK. It rattled windows in houses 80 miles away. I go down there every once in a while. It's still an eerie feeling.

My thought in the border was to project the image. Maybe not a good idea. Not sure.

Thanks for stopping by. Best Regards.

I have already garnered the obligatory 3/3. First rating. Happens every time. It's OK. This is not about aesthetics and originality. It's about your freedom to do what you do. Some things can't be categorized. I have a few other shots in my portfolio of this area. I may add a few more.

Barry, thanks for sharing this photo and the your story. I did not rate this photo. I rarely rate photos these days, and very rarely rate photos like this. Not because it lacks anything flashy, but I think photos like this go beyond number ratings. They deserve comments, thought, and debate. I'm so tired of the 3/3 rater(s) that seem to spit on peoples work without even giving the courtesy so state why or who they are. It's just a shame that this great site made up of mostly good people has to be tainted by these cowards.

Thanks for the comment, Will. I don't rate very many photos these days, either. I admit that this is probably not aesthetically dynamic, and certainly can't be considered tremendously original. This is about something much bigger, and tells a much bigger story. So I'm not concerned with the 3/3 rating. It's just that almost every photo I've submitted lately gets a 3/3 in the first 20 seconds. It usually takes over an hour for any more to show up. It's one of those mysteries of life that is inexplicable. Glad you dropped by. Best Regards.

Barry,

I can't believe they even keep the rating system. The people leaving 3/3 are people who don't have any pictures posted. I work downtown OKC and wasn't personally effected but felt the shock and devastation that so many people have. I am on a committee that I volunteer for the annual OKC Memorial Run every year. The meeting are inside the Memorial building and it's great to be a part of a state of such giving and caring people. Great catch~thanks for sharing.

Nice to make the aquaintance of someone so close. Thanks for stopping by. I've been here (with the exxception of about a year and a half in DC) since 1975. Originally from Maine, and still love it there, too. Raised five kids here, and love the people. Again, nice to meet you. Warmest Regards, Barry

Barry, that image has character. I wonder what is in the poem...Time engraves in all of us, so your words are very accurate. Pnina

Hi Barry. It's a good documentary-style photograph. This one, along with the others that you have posted so far, provide a thoughtful compilation of images regarding that tragic Oklahoma City event. I feel the frame is a good, reserved choice. Great job of focus on the text...perfect exposure too!

The frequency and rapidity of the low rates make me suspicious; perhaps you have been marked as "interesting". Regards.

Thanks for stopping by, and for your gracious comments. I'm sure there are very few people who would actually find me interesting. I have no idea why I should generate much interest on Pnet. Surely my photos will garner enough low ratings on their own without needing help. Best Regards.
