bens 0 Posted February 2, 2006 beautiful colors, interesing flower, like the pov, focus is not quite there, suggest a little more room on the left, as the flower is facing that way, would help. Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted February 2, 2006 It's an interesting shot, unusually presented. I like the flow from the opening bud to the full flower. I would have been inclined to angle it a bit to centre the bud and also give it a bit more space on the left. Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted February 3, 2006 Thanks for all the comments! Ben, I'm curious to know what you mean by "focus is not quite there"? I really considered giving complete space to the flower on the left, but decided against it for reasons of visual wieght. I felt even more black space would have made it far too left heavy as any solid, be it shadow or highlight, is always a dominant visual element. Fully including the left petal might have given it a more "complete" feeling, but I made sure (and like) that the bottom petals and the left petals are all equally cropped or equi-distant from the edge of the frame. Regardless, I thought this one was a bit different, and am glad some of you saw it that way, too. cheers,Aaron Link to comment
bens 0 Posted February 3, 2006 sorry aaron, i was sloppy with my words -- i meant to say i'd like to see more in focus within the frame, though i imagine that cuts against what you were trying to accomplish. Link to comment
jnicholson 0 Posted February 3, 2006 This is a most interesting composition. I like it. When the picture opened my eye was immediately drawn to the flower on the left. Because my eye had nowhere to wander left, I went to the right and felt a sort of surprise by the size and presentation of the flower on the right. I'm not explaining myself well (common problem) but I enjoyed the ride through this picture. Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted February 3, 2006 Ben, fair enough. I value your comments as you've also got a strong and unique floral section. Jamie, I'm glad you found it at least somewhat lasting. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 7, 2006 Aaron, I love the colors of these flowers. It's an unusual blend of hues. The strength of the image for me is the smaller in-focus bloom with the larger oof bloom in the background. I like the transition of sharp to soft across the frame. I like the bloom facing slightly down and to the left as well. It's an unexpected, semi-profile of the bloom. While the petal leaving the frame at the bottom doesn't bother me, the one on the left does sort of stop my eye. I agree that you wouldn't want more dark space. I suppose the only work around would be to snip that one petal, though I don't usually like to do that. Regardless of my little nit, I like the quality and character of this floral shot. It also has a nice visual rythm with the petals mimicking a flame. Link to comment
