Will, there is no secrets here. It's all about location. This was taken while me and my friend were canoeing at Straton Lake, Algonquin Provincial Park Canada. I was sitting on the front and just had a couple of seconds to pick up my D1X and took this shot before we rowed into the shade.

Just goes to show (a lesson I need to pay more attention to), there is no substitute for good light. Simple and beautiful.
